I basically cut a corner chunk of my thumb off with a sharp, new kitchen knife.

I glued the chunk, held on by skin, back into place with Neosporin and wrapped it up in Band-Aids. Other than initial shock, not much pain. I've managed not to press the thumb into too much today.
