First US Visitor

Jackie Figgins comes to visit us tomorrow (February 8, 2007). We're very excited! We're going to gather her from the airport and whisk her away to nearby Bodium Castle. Hopefully, having a mildly active day at the castle will help Jackie adjust to the UK time zone.

Jackie is staying with us for two weeks. We'll be going to Stonehenge, Old Sarum, London, and Dover, just to name a few places. I'll try to post pictures after her visit.

By the way, I may not post much while she is visiting, so don't be too upset with me, okay?

Rowan's Words

Here are some of Rowan's newest words: juice, all done, cheese, banana. Sometimes he adds several words to his vocabulary in one day, and other times he goes days without discovering new words. He is making lots of progress, though.

This isn't a word, but it is a word-related behavior. When we're getting ready to eat a meal and something hot comes out of the oven, he blows exaggeratedly and loudly to cool it down. It's really cute. It's almost as if he thinks hot food is called ahh-whew, ahh-whew!

Climbing the Walls

Rowan is a climber. Oh my goodness, does he love to climb! He is rough and tumble, through and through. He climbs onto the toy box and over the arm of the couch, and tries to get onto the end table, at which point I put him back on the floor, much to his chargrin. He thinks any object on the floor is a climbing toy.

Talented Kids

Olivia is quite the artist. She is drawing stick figures now, complete with faces, arms, and legs, which I think is quite brillant for a 3-year-old. She also drew an amazing-looking penguin.

Rowan is the resident singer and dancer. I think he'll have a great career in entertainment. On Friday mornings, Rowan and I go to Monkey Music, which he loves! He sings and dances with the other kids and thinks it is fantastic.

Scooby Doo

For the two and a half years of her life, we didn't let Olivia watch television. Recently, we've relented and let her watch a few programs. What is her favorite show? Scooby Doo! She loves the idea of solving a mystery and she doesn't get scared (too badly, anyway) because the villian is always a man or woman in a mask and costume.

Over the past few days, she's inserted Scooby Doo into everyday life. Two nights ago she was looking for a toy and she said, "Let's split up and look for clues." How cute!
