Went to Dayton a few days to the Ring of Honor show with the other three New Age Horsemen. That company proved once again to me that it's FAR AND AWAY better than any other wrestling promotion in the country. A classy group from top to bottom...and the Necro Butcher is there, too.
Alright, on to the book club...
>National Wrestling Alliance: The Untold Story of the Monoploy That Strangled Pro Wrestling by Tim Hornbaker-372 pgs.
-Finally...FINALLY I made it through this damn book. I've been reading this on and off for at least three months. The reason it took me so long is that it's SO dry. Don't get me wrong, it's informative and incredibly well-researched but SHIT. Have you ever read a college text book from front to back? That's what I feel like I just did. And that's a pretty good analogy for this book. If a college ever offers a class in pro-wrestling history, then this should be in the curriculum. For the average rasslin' fan, they won't recognize a name in the entire book until maybe the last two chapters so this book is NOT for them. Honestly, I'm not sure who this book is aimed at. I'm a huge wrestling nerd and this was a total struggle to get through. And realize that this book isn't focused on in-ring wrestling but on the business aspect. Contracts, salaries, attendance figures...that business aspect. Look, this book fills it's niche perfectly...but I'm not sure if that niche needed to be filled or even if that niche existed in the first place.
>The Eye in the Pyramid: Book One of the Illuminatus Trilogy by Robert Shea & Robert Anton Wilson-304 pgs.
-Holy fuck. Imagine every conspiracy and shady organization you can think of. I mean ALL of them. Satanists, the Catholic Church, the Illuminati, Freemasons, Atlantis, the JFK and RFK assassinations, hippies, the mafia, cults, the Ku Klux Klan...and now imagine that they are ALL linked. And try to connect them all why taking immense quantities of drugs. That's how this book reads. There's at least four seperate storylines (I think) and the perspective changes between them all in MID-PARAGRAPH! You have to pay really fucking close attention to even have a chance at understanding what the hell is going on. In short...IT'S AWESOME. And it's only the first book of the trilogy.

Year to Date Page Count: 7631
Wow...the year started off so great...I was going to make the 10,000 page target by...well, right now. Less than a month to go and still a quarter of the way to go. Ah well, I tried. After the year ends, I'm still going to keep the book club going but I won't bother keeping track of the pages.
