So went and saw DJ Shadow this evening with a few friends. Ended up being Cole, Athena, Mira, and Jake a couple of his buddies we met there, and Mira knew some folks there as well.
I have to say, I wasn't quite sure what to expect with his set, and I was MORE than well pleased. I've loved his stuff for awhile now, and "The Private Press" is just one of those classic albums that spent months and months in my car's stereo deck. I wouldn't really classify his stuff as "dance-y" really, and so that's made me a bit questioning how it was going to be going into it.
I like the House of Blues well enough. The sound system is great, and it's really not too bad getting into. But the crowd there (this wasn't too bad) is always a bit funky from what I guess I expect it to be. I'm more used to a "club" crowd I guess.
He had some crazy remixes, and played a really good set. The visuals were also really interesting and he had a giant sphere that his DJ booth was in that had visuals playing on that as well. Very well done.
Ended up buying a pretty sweet shirt as well. So I'm happy about that. I like having t-shirts from shows, they basically ARE what I wear for t-shirts nowadays. I wear collared shirts most of the time otherwise. It's nice having shirts that correspond to excellent memorys.
Other than that? Nothing special on the day. But man, I'm glad I made it out to that show.
