New Years

Jan 02, 2006 10:10

I got out of work a little after 5:00PM, and was home by 6:30 having stopped to do some grocery shopping. With the exception of the small pickup that wanted to play chicken with my cart in the parking lot (BRING IT!!!), it was an uneventful trip to the store.

I got home to find Cathy in her Pajamas (whoo!) and DJ, sitting contentedly on her lap, sucking his thumb. DJ was WIRED as he napped late, and was very excited to have both Cathy and I home at the same time. The evening ended with Cathy going to bed at 10:30, and me joining her just after midnight. Something in me needs to see the ball drop at times square. Sunday was a lot of fun as DJ and I played all day, I got in a little reading, a nap (I am an old, old man...), and more time with the boy including a bath.

I opened up the jar of salsa that Calamity sent me, and it was FANTASTIC. While there is a good heat to it, it's not punishing, and there is both a delicacy of flavor and a sweetness to it that sneaks up on you. I've polished off two thirds of the jar so far, and am looking forward to killing the rest with some nachos this weekend. I may put it in my oatmeal, who knows. Recommended drink: A Contusion*. Great stuff, really.

*Ingredients:Tall glass of Orange Juice (with pulp), Vodka (from freezer), Jaegermeister (from freezer), Optional: Maraschino Cherry. Slowly add two shots of vodka from the freezer to the orange juice, DO NOT STIR! You want the top of the drink to thicken a bit from the cold. Next, slowly pour one shot of Jaegermeister in the glass, close to one side. The Jaeger will tint the orange juice and reach one side of the glass looking like a fresh nasty bruise. Optional: Add a maraschino cherry.
