What we have is a system wide failure; Market, Corporate, Government, Consumer.. how ever you want to slice and dice the system it allowed a bubble to occur and it put itself(the system) in jeopardy

It's a democratic county, I think. At least, Birmingham has a democratic mayor. Then again, it looks like he might go to jail for fraud over the debt gambling.
As far as investments go, what I tell people is to find a way to invest in yourself -- whether that means education or your own business or whatever. That might be hard for some people, including you, but it's the only advice I can give.
My feeling is that 7500 is the right level for the Dow (based on dividend ratios) if we ever make it out of the liquidity squeeze, but it could drop lower, causing more panic. Panic leads to distrust, and there are a lot of reasons for Wall Street firms to distrust one another. Lack of ethics in business is finally coming home to roost.
I think either the world economy will collapse, or we will borrow so much from the future that we keep it on life support for decades to come. Our political structure will then likely move closer to a fascist totalitarian state. At least, these are my honest fears. I hope I'm wrong, but it's the way that makes sense to me. But I fully understand that making sense of the future is a silly game.
