So loving Plummie for this rant......

A "logical" reason why AOE is a waste of time, money and teenagers sanity.....
So you have the A/O class, like what once a week? a month? a semester? Whatever.... for this brief amount of time you bombard hormonally charged youngsters with a 'just say no' rhetoric, not actually answering reasonable questions that come up, just enforcing the notion that good girls and boys don't 'do it'.
Now for the remainder of their time spent in waking hours, these same hormonally charged youngsters are bombarded with images and media infused with sexuality. From magazine and CD covers, movies, television, radio all of these forms of expression go against the 'don't do it' mentality. Their questions and concerns are still not being addressed....All Paris Hilton can teach me is that night-vision cameras rock, not where to go and what to do when I need real advice on STDs, birth control, sexual orientation etc.
AOE programs do a dis-service to our youth, they don't promote 'morality', whatever the hell that means to you.
And I still sit in awe....how do we allow this crap to get so far?

It's easy. When religion is allowed to dictate what goes on in a state instutition (I.E. Public school). Now, private schools, you obviously can't help that much, since they can pretty much do whatever the hell they want. Parents are paying to send their kids there and it's right that they have a say. The kids who don't have that option are stuck in public school.

I don't think a group of ANY religion has the right to dictate what goes on in a public school, education-wise. Not every kid in the public school is going to be of their religion or even follow religion at all. Even if the majority was Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc., I still don't thinkt they should have the right to dictate what is taught the minority of non-religious students. That's why it's called seperation of Church and State. (Even if previously that meant only seperation of the State from the Church, and not vice versa, that's not how the law is interpreted now.)

Public schools are just that. Public. They are funded by the state and by people living in the community. I don't think a school board packed with a certain religion should be allowed to tell you that only Creationism should be taught or that Creationism should be taught in a mainstream class. That's what church is for. If you must, pull your kid out of the class when Darwinism is being taught, but don't tell the school system that EVERY kid must learn creationism or creationism and Darwinism. Darwinism is a scientific theory that actually HAS a basis in fact, unlike Creationism.

Oops! Long rant, sorry. ^_^ Anyway, when religious groups take over the school systems, this is how that crap goes so far. Religion needs to be seperated from the public school system. Religion is for church and private schools.
