In their behavior toward creatures, all men are Nazis.

"You put a baby in a crib with an apple and a rabbit. If it eats the rabbit and plays with the apple, I'll buy you a new car."
Harvey Diamond

Some of you might have gathered the fact that I am a vegetarian. I was a semi-vegetarian untill this summer's beginning when I finally cut out all the meat products from my diet and changed it to lacto-ovovegetarianism. Well, mostly to ovo-vegetarianism since I'm lactose-intolerant and use already a lot of soy or oat made "dairyproducts". I'm hoping that I could cut out the lacto-ovo part too in near future since I still live with my parents it's impossible to do currently.
I've been very pleased with this diet, not it also makes me feel incredibly healhty and helped loose some weight too, it also is the friendliest option towards enviroment and animals.

"Vegetarianism is harmless enough though it is apt to fill a man with wind and self-righteousness."
Robert Hutchison, address to the British Medical Association, 1930

I didn't become a semi-vegetarian because of the animals. I became one because of enviroment. It's a cold hard fact that producing meat from the born of the calf to the point when it's on your plate in the world wide scale causes 18% of one year's carbon dioxide release of the world. It may look like small number but it's three times bigger than what comes out of all world's aeroplane traffic (their part is about 5%).
There's also the fact that just the amount of grain and soy that is produced in USA in one year for the cattle to eat would be enough to feed all those people in Africa who suffer from hunger.

"In their behavior toward creatures, all men are Nazis. Human beings see oppression vividly when they're the victims. Otherwise they victimize blindly and without a thought."
Isaac Bashevis Singer, author, Nobel Prize 1978

I've always been somewhat aware of the treatment of animals that are produced to feed, cloth, entertain us and secure our cosmetic products for us. During this summer I then dug into this subject very deeply and got my eyes opened.
How could I call myself an animal lover when what I eat causes that much of suffering?
If I was already sure that human kind was the worst thing to happen for this beautiful planet, no there was no such thing to deny. People have been, they were, they are and they will be the cruelest species ever walk on this earth.
Animals are locked into tiny cages without proper chance to interact, clean themselves, exercise, eat or even drink. They are jammed into small spaces with many others when some of them are stomped to death. They are made to suffer unnecessarily when they are killed. Some of them are boiled to death, others get a shot from a bolt gun that "should stop them from feeling the pain" before they're taken to a room where their throaths are slit while they're still alive.
If all that was done to a human being, there would be huge trials against those person but since it's just animals nothing really happens. After all animals "don't feel anything".

"Truely man is the king of beasts, for his brutality exceeds theirs. We live by the death of others: we are burial places! I have from an early age abjured the use of meat, and the time will come when men such as I will look on the murder of animals as they now look on the murder of men."
Leonardo da Vinci

I know that the utopia of everyone giving up the meat is a utopia but I still believe that more and more people could make the change and make this world a little bit better and more fair place for everyone. Even if it means that people would give up eating meat for a once a week. For Mondays.

Testing on animals even for a medical reasons is completely needless. 96% of those products won't ever reach the market, 2% of them reach the market but are withdrawn within two weeks of their realease due to a reactions they cause on humans. Only 2% of animal tested products are safe for human.

"If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian."
Paul and Linda McCartney

There's many great and not so great movies about animal abuse and vegetarianism. One of my favourites can be purchased online and it's a movie that definitely makes you think about your actions. I cried during watching it. It is made by wonderful Shaun Monson and narrated by Joaquin Phoenix.

Earhtlings can be watched on Youtube too. I embed the first part here and the following ones (11 parts) have their links shown when the first part ends.

"Would you kill your pet dog or cat to eat it? How about an animal you're not emotionally attached to? Is the thought of slaughtering a cow or chicken or pig with your own hands too much to handle? Instead, would hiring a hit-man to do the job give you enough distance from the emotional discomfort? What animal did you put a contract out on for your supper last night? Did you at least make sure that none went to waste and to take a moment to be grateful for its sacrifice?"

"When I was old enough to realize all meat was killed, I saw it as an irrational way of using our power, to take a weaker thing and mutilate it. It was like the way bullies would take control of younger kids in the schoolyard."
River Phoniex
