Quote For The Day:
"I'm just an actor with a gun who's lost his motivation." - Bruce Baxter

So I just got back from King Kong. Here are my thoughts. First, the positives. Visually, it might be the best movie I've ever seen. There really aren't enought superlatives to describe the visual elements of it. From the first shot of the island wall to the various dinosaurs and creatures on the island to the intricacies of Kong himself to the classic Empire State Building scene, it's absolutely stunning. It really left me speechless.
The acting was pretty good for the most part. The one disappointment I had with the acting was Jack Black. Now I love Jack Black as a comedic actor, and he pulled off his early funny scenes with typical Jack Black style. But as the movie went on, they wanted him to be a more self-serving, conniving, egocentric, money-grubbing movie producer, and I really didn't think he pulled it off. For a comedic actor to be successful in a non-comedic role, he has to make me forget that it's him acting. For example, Ashton Kutcher turned into Evan Treborn in "The Butterfly Effect," and Ryan Reynolds turned into George Lutz in "The Amityville Horror." But throughout this movie, I didn't see Carl Denham, I saw Jack Black. All the other parts were great. Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody, Thomas Kretschmann, Colin Hanks, Evan Parke, Jamie Bell, they were all perfect for their respective roles. But I was disappointed in Jack Black.
I definitely would not recommend this to anyone under the ages of 12-15, depending on the person. There are some really intense action scenes (aided by the excellent visual effects) and some serious gross-out scenes (again accomplished through amazing effects). But for the rest of you, I would definitely say it's worth the eight bucks to see in a real movie theater with Doby Digital Surround Sound and a ginormous screen. But I wouldn't pay to see it again, either at the theater, or at home. In my mind, it's just another in a long line of big-budget blockbusters which are worth a viewing, but not much more than that.
On a more somber note, condolences to Tony Dungy and his family who just lost their oldest, 18-year-old James, as he was found dead in his apartment outside Tampa this morning.
On to the link! I wanna know where they come up with some of this stuff:
Caffiene Death
http://www.energyfiend.com/death-by-caffeine It would take 437.60 cans of Coca-Cola Classic to kill me, and 316.56 cups of tea to do the job.
Ok, I'm gonna go. Have a good one, and remember, it wasn't airplanes; beauty killed the beast.
Adios
