thems the words that ran through my head several times today during rowing practice.
day 2, 8 girls at once learned to handle the boats today, we had to remove them from their little nesting spot, pick them up,walk with them, put them overhead, over shoulder, down to waist, roll them right side up etc etc. it was pretty intimidating because they are something ridicilous expensive, more than my years tuition and its really fragile on the bottom. so we're walking around with this 250 lb boat on our shoulders, which doesn't sound like a lot, but your definatly supporting alot of weight, (esp. if your taller than the other girls around you )its 60ft long so its notoriously awkward! but its so sweet once you get it down and everyone is doing it in one smooth movement and your putting this huge boat over your head and rolling it over and picking it up at the commands of the coxswain, which is the person who sits at the back of the boat commanding everyone else while rowing. they also "command" the rowers when their moving the boat on land, so its a very organized almost military sort of operation. i think eventually we learn to walk in step and no one can talk when hands are on the boat. so far im really digging it, I'm sore as crap today and i have to get up at 4:45am mon-fri but i think it will be sweet as heck once we're out on the water! hooray for boats! that is all
