Humacti Central
Humact Cecil and I were called to a patrol at the mining village of Cobblestone. We destroyed several dozen undead inside the mine: mostly skeletons and zombies of an unknown race (small in stature but broad and strong), three ghouls, one death knight and a guardian spirit/warrior ghost possessing a miner. The possessed miner survived and I have asked the Defenders to question him further.
The undead did not appear fresh and no evidence of recent necromantic activity was found. Unfortunately, the mine was flooding rapidly as we finished off the last of the undead and so we were unable to fully investigate the area to ensure the source was found.
An annotated old map was found in the possession of the mine owner/foreman (a Mr Thomason). Though it is unclear if he had any foreknowledge of the presence of the undead, he was responsible for the opening up of the ruined city where they were found. The annotations made reference to cursed metal, with a side note, in runes similar to those I studied on Emeras, suggesting a curse was on the taker of something (possibly this same metal), to animate within a
certain time period. No metal objects were found.
If the flooding subsides, I would recommend a full investigation of the ruins before the mine is reopened or otherwise the surrounding area should be closely monitored for signs of any remaining undead.

I am happy to report the undead in the mine near the village of Cobblestone have all been destroyed and the missing miners rescued with no casualties. The shift foreman was found to be possessed by an undead spirit and, while I was able to drive it out of him, he should be carefully questioned as to how he came to be in this situation.
We found evidence that the mine owner/foreman, Mr Thomason, was aware there was something unusual to be dug up. He ordered a ‘new seam’ to be opened, which came out into the ruins of a city of the pygmy race whom we encountered as undead. It also seems the shift foreman had some specific instructions regarding this or else was already possessed.
We cut it very fine - I understand the lives of civilians had to be taken into account but the delay came within minutes of leaving the undead threat unresolved. There didn’t seem to be much urgency, despite our having been informed we had only three hours until the mine flooded. As a follower of Freedom, I appreciate it when the Defenders lead with a soft touch and make requests rather than orders, but on more than one occasion I had to take charge to ensure we were sufficiently organised to defeat the undead.
I will be recommending the Humacti carry out a full investigation of the mine before it is reopened, assuming the pumps are able to be restored to working order. If not, I would advise a guard on this area in case of any further issues.
