we can't have both

The trouble with many things is that we want all the pleasure and none of the pain, but we can't have both.

Most pleasure comes with some pain. It isn't necessarily physically painful, rather it is painful in that the pleasure often comes with something we don't really want.

Oftentimes the pain is worth it, but sometimes it isn't.

It is hard to find a balance between the two... maybe there isn't a balance point... maybe we just need to accept that pain and pleasure are inseparable...

I'm starting to realize that this isn't going to stop being painful for awhile and as much as I can see pleasure in my future (or maybe not so much pleasure, as an absence of this pain) it just isn't here now.

I hate the phrase "everything happens for a reason" so I think I will stick with... "this too shall pass"
