Monday - work in our street began, for the replacement of old, Victorian-era water pipes with new! shiny! water pipes. DVD of 'MirrorMask' arrived from play.com. Watched it with the beloved, in the evening: it had a simple story, and it was beautiful and strange, like a nightmare and a dream - there were a lot of weird details, and it felt rich and deep. (It had a small budget, and yet it felt so much better than the shiny yet almost empty 'Cars').
Tuesday evening, Pembury Tavern. Played a card-game called 'Guillotine', in which the aim is to collect as many high-point nobles as possible. It was fun. I also drank beer - Westgate Gold, from York brewery.
And last, people mentioned going to see 'Stardust', so I asked if I could come along, and the people said yes.
Wednesday evening - went to see 'Stardust' at the cinema. I read the book, but it was so long ago I only had a very vague memory of it. I enjoyed the film a lot - probably more so for not having the book in my head to compare it to.

Thursday - I recieved in the post an present. It was for my friend in the USA, and it was mailed to me by mistake. I managed to get to the post-office and send it to her. I hope it gets there, this time. I'll have to compose a note to email the sellers: so far, all I can think of writing is 'you FAIL ' and that's not how business email, nor polite complaints, should go.
Friday: The water was turned off in the morning. The evening before I filled plastic bottles and the kettle and the water filter and the cafetiere with water : we'd had a letter earlier in the week to say the water would be off from eight in the morning to six in the evening. At about ten past one, there was a knock on the door: two men working on the water asked me to turn on the tap and check if I had water. And there was water, and there is water, and I am relieved.
