I've always had a curmudgeonly streak. I've been trying to work on it for a couple of years, though not very hard or in any sort of dedicated manner.
It occurs to me that I really need to work on my graciousness when working with service personnel - clerks in stores or the overseas peons who work for the credit card company/industrial journals/etc. that I deal with.
I know what I want and I can get very impatient. These people have no way of being able to read my mind and maybe other people truly do appreciate being asked if they care about what color paper something is wrapped in, do they want a gift card, etc. I really honestly don't care. I suppose randomly picking option A when presented with one of these "don't care" choices will be smoother for both me and the service person asking. I discovered some time ago at work that when presented with a "really don't care" choice by someone producing product it's my job to get out, it's part of my job to be decisive and pick one.
People tend to get crankier as they get older. Perhaps I can simply prevent myself from becoming any more curmudgeonly.
