Every year there is.. DINE OUT VANCOUVER!!!! My friend was raving to me about how awesome Zakkushi was for dineout this year so we checked out Zakkushi on main Wednesday night. I was worried that the portions would be too small and I wouldn't be full - but my friend had assured us we would come away satisfied.
It was pretty busy - we were only able to get a 5:30 reservation at the bar. Service was good - friendly greeting at the door and it was not bad considering how busy it got towards the end of the meal. The Dineout Menu had choices between seafood based options and meat based - like a Beef Tataki in their appetizer antipasto trio and Beef Steak don and skewers for the entree. My cousin and I went for the seafood - photos as follows.
Appetizer:
Fisherman's Favourite: 10 pieces of seasonal sashimi
Everyone knows that quality sashimi is kind of pricy so this serving of 10 sashimi pieces felt pretty generous. Everything tasted very fresh and delicious. To satisfy my sushi craving last week I had went to Sushi Garden with my boyfriend and it just can't compare - their salmon was thick and kind of chewy -not how I like my raw salmon.. The Fisherman's Favourite was an excellent start.
Entree: Japanese Tradition: Japanese Bouillabaisse
Yum! King crab leg, sweet potatoes, black cod, oyster... It was wonderful. The broth was perfect.
Entree: 6 pieces of seasonal sushi
The Japanese tradition entree also comes with 6 pieces of seasonal sushi. Like the appetizer, this was very well presented and tasted fabulous. I'm usually not a huge fan of tuna but this place does it perfect.
Dessert: Matcha Tiramisu
If you like green tea ..and tiramisu ..then you will probably like this. It doesn't taste like tiramisu in the traditional sense but its a delicious creamy dessert with elements of tiramisu.
Desert Option 2: Homemade ice cream , sesame and yuzu
My cousin chose this for her dessert. The yuzu is kind of an acquired taste but the sesame ice cream has this amazing nutty flavour. Overall a good dessert.
Vancouver Dineout 2010 at Zakkushi was a great experience - for $28 I thought it was still a very good value and there was really nothing that I didn't like. A definite must for seafood lovers. I would definitely try them again next year.
