Krystal woke up with a start. The blanket wrapped around her body fell crumpled to the cool, tiled flooring as she stood up and looked at her surroundings. Where am I, she thought. Picking up the blanket and draping it over herself, she proceeded down what seemed to be a long airy corridor. She stopped abruptly as she passed a full length mirror placed in the centre of the corridor. Her slim, pale face was smudged with dirt and her brown, waist-length hair was tangled in knots. She touched the bruises that were smattered across her arms and looked back into the mirror. “What happened..?” she whispered to herself. “I see you’ve woken up,” a warm voice interrupted her thoughts, Krystal instantly turning to her left. A young man stood at the end of the corridor, smiling slightly, with his hands in his pockets. “I bet you’re starving, let’s see if we can get you anything to eat.”

Krystal watched curiously as the man, who introduced himself as Myungsoo, busied himself in the kitchen, whipping up what he said was a “proper lunch” for them. She was seated on the couch directly opposite the open kitchen. Krystal rubbed the streaks of black on her arm vigorously and sighed. “Oh, I forgot, would you want to take a shower? Considering you look like you haven’t bathed for days..” Myungsoo’s amused voice again disrupting her thoughts. “Well, there’s already towels stocked in the bathroom, and loose clothing in the cabinet beside the sink. Why don’t you take a shower while I finish up cooking?” Krystal nodded slowly and got to her feet, walking in the direction he pointed her to.

The two sat quietly at the island table in the kitchen whilst they had their meal. Myungsoo raised his eyebrow, amused at the sight of this girl gorging down bowls of rice and stuffing the meat into her mouth like she hadn’t eaten in a long while. Beads of rice stuck to the sides of her mouth, making Myungsoo chuckle. Krystal looked up at him and stopped eating, putting down her chopsticks. “Oh, I didn’t mean for you to stop eating, go on.” She shook her head and answered in a quiet voice, “No, thank you for the meal, I’m done eating.” Krystal wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. “Do I know you?” she asked Myungsoo. “No, I found you unconscious outside my house. Do you remember your name?” “My name is Krystal Jung and I can’t remember anything right other than that right now.” Myungsoo rubbed his chin and looked back at her. “You really don’t remember anything? Where you live?” Krystal pursed her lips and seemed to think very hard. She dropped her head down, fiddling with her hands. “I’m sorry, I can’t seem to remember.” “Its alright, you can stay here until you do.” Krystal shifted uneasily when Myungsoo smiled at her, her stomach seeming to be doing somersaults.
