Fun with grass (Late summer sun)

Sunset through the locust trees
This was the last night of my August break.

Spiderweb and new willow leaves at sunrise
I have to explain this picture. One of my potted willow trees had appeared to die over the break, but although its leaves were all brown and dry, I thought it might still be alive. A few days later, as the sun was coming up, I glanced out on the balcony and saw these little green leaves springing out all over it. So I went out to take a picture of the contrast between the brown dead leaves and the young green ones, and almost walked into this magnificent spiderweb, shining with rainbow colors in the amber sunlight. It was quite a thrill. (Looks better if you click through twice to the big version.)

Bitterweed, country road

Small bee on a bitterweed blossom
The blossom is about the size of a quarter, so you can imagine how tiny the bee is.

Bearded grass at 5 o'clock

Bearded grass and telephone lines

Demaree's gaura (white) and evening primrose (yellow)
The Demaree's gaura blooms white and turns pink as it fades through the day - by evening the blossom is spent.

Afternoon delight, grasshopper style
This is the second pair I found; the first hopped away (still coupled) when I got near, so I had to stalk the second pair carefully. I was like a tiger creeping through the grass. A tiger with a camera.

the slant of light, flowers, summer, things i saw
