Fascinating findings about a "global mega-colony" of Argentine ants. Apparently you can tell when ants are members of the same (genetically related) colony by the fact that they're not aggressive with one another. Most colonies are relatively small and hold small territories, but there is a super-colony of these ants that takes up practically all of the state of California, for instance. There's another in Japan, and another in the Mediterranean. What the scientists discovered is that members of the three super-colonies also act like friends when they are brought across the seas and introduced to *each other*. So this is presumably actually one colony that has achieved global domination. Or, as SciFri tweeted, "Welcome to our new ant overlords."

I'm getting ready to leave for the farm. We get one day of holiday during the summer, and tomorrow is it, so I hope to take full advantage of it. Maybe I'll watch more than 20 minutes of television. Or sleep past 6. Or cook and eat an actual meal. Who knows what craziness could happen!
