I have this theory that hurricanes are a TV meteorologist's wet dream. I think they thrive on the adrenaline and they like standing out in the driving rain.
So right now, the fact that the Weather Channel newscasters in Galveston and Houston are starting to sound really upset and freaked out that 60% of the population did not evacuate Galveston is making me really nervous. Jim Cantore is their Weather!Action!Man but he sounds like he's about frustrated enough to cry. Then there's their senior meteorologist, Doctor Lyons in the studio, who's just getting a more and more somber tone the more time that passes. Earlier in the day he was kind of animated, but now it's like he's picking out a tie for a funeral. The way he said, "A lot of people in Houston are going to be really sad" made it sound like an understatement.
Meep.
