For American Doctor Who fans

I'm not sure who might need this information, but two things are coming up:

Official podcast alert: The fourth series of Doctor Who started in the UK on Saturday. We'll get it here on the Sci Fi Channel on April 18, when the Christmas special "Voyage of the Damned" airs, and April 25th, when the regular season starts. The BBC offers an episode commentary podcast the week after each episode airs in the UK, and if they do like last year, the podcasts won't remain available on the website for long. I've set up iTunes to grab the podcasts for me, and since they'll be actually downloaded to my computer, I'll be able to listen to them whenever I get to watch the episodes. On iTunes the podcast is called Doctor Who: The Commentaries and all you have to do is search and click Subscribe. The first commentary is already up.

Also, The Sarah Jane Adventures is starting soon! The pilot movie, which was also a Christmas special, is called "The Invasion of the Bane" and airs on Sci Fi this Friday April 11. The regular season starts the following week. It's playing right before Doctor Who. The week of "Voyage of the Damned," they'll just be playing one 30-minute episode of Sarah Jane beforehand, but after that it looks like they're showing two 30-minute episodes each week. The series was filmed with two episodes comprising each complete story, so because of the way they're starting out, it looks like every Friday we'll get the end of one story and the beginning of the next, ending with a cliffhanger. Sigh.

If you like Doctor Who, I really encourage you to give the Sarah Jane Adventures a try. It's the same Sarah Jane from "School Reunion" (and the earlier classic series stories, but if you've seen those you probably don't need to read this post) and while it was made for children and teens, it really has plenty for the adult fans, in my opinion. It's well done and very much a part of the Who universe. And if you have kids who like Doctor Who (or even kids who haven't seen it), they should *love* this.
