While the juice is still flowing... (Cousin weekend)

Aug 05, 2007 23:22

I think the sun-like internal temperatures regularly reached by my laptop have begun melting the plug that connects the power cable to the machine. Since my battery can't hold more than 5 minutes of power, I may be rather up a creek here. The Best Buy service plan recently expired and I didn't renew it because a) it's a lot of money and b) I can no ( Read more... )

Is it meant for carrying tea, then? Apple juice for the kids?

No, no. See, alcoholics shouldn't use it, because they aren't supposed to drink.

Ohhhh. Of course! :) Heh. It's so nice of them to be concerned.

That's exactly what I thought. "Not for use by alcoholics."

The trailer with Christopher Ecclestion is 'The Seeker: The Dark is Rising' based on the Susan Cooper series. I'm not sure why they added "The Seeker" part to the title but I have heard that they've monkeyed around with the series a bit.

Ah, okay. Thank you! That also explains why I didn't recognize it: I've only read The Grey King in that series, and if they've monkeyed around with it anyway... looks like a cool movie, but maybe I shouldn't read the other books before I see it. :)

From that article:
"That's something that we just do not condone in the house," said Tammy Colbert.

Well, duh! If you condoned it in the house, they wouldn't need a flask. Get a clue, Tammy!

Also, marketing flasks to teens is appalling.

Very much agreed. There were no "Class of 2007" flasks in the store I was in, but all the flasks were cut price. I wonder if they're trying to clear them out because of protests? If so that's even worse. They should just pull them instead.

Awesome! GhoulChicklet will want one of those next, since she wants everything else sold for teens. And when we won't let her have it, she'll make one out of paper (and possibly declare it superior), just like her paper cell phone, paper laptop, and paper boyfriend.

Well, I do need to test it, I think. Just on the off-off chance the "not for alcoholic use" means alcohol will corrode the metal. Picture me sitting at home on my couch, trying really hard to sip bourbon from a flask and feeling a little ridiculous. What would you suggest as a soundtrack? :)

Hee, I love that tequila commercial. Tequila for social anxiety. Hmm...

There was also a trailer for some fantasy movie... a Philip Pullman novel, maybe? (They're on my list, but I'm stuck a few chapters into the third Sally Lockhart book right now.) Anyway, suddenly Christopher Eccleston shows up all dark and glowering on a black horse, and my mom and I spin immediately to look at each other.

I knew he'd be in there and I still squeeked when I saw him! He's playing the bad guy which...

*fanself*

(The movie is part of Susan Cooper's "The Dark Is Rising" series. I'm not sure if it's the first of many or just a one-shot)

The fangirl!cousins sound cute. You KNOW they're reading fanfic. ;)

Heh. I think I can get behind that, too. Especially now that The Second Coming has cleared away my "Eccleston IS the Doctor and I want to hug and smoosh him" delusions.

I read one book in the Dark is Rising series, but not the one this book is based on, and it seems even that didn't stick with me very well. I think watching this movie without reviewing the books is probably a good idea.

You KNOW they're reading fanfic. ;)

I know, you would totally think that, wouldn't you? But they don't even have a computer at home, so either they're getting it somewhere else, or this is just what little anime-obsessed wannabe goth girls go for even without the influence of the 'net. Amazing. And cute. :)
