jadesfire2808 recently sent me a little recipe book for dog treats, as part of a wonderful care package. So I'd already been thinking about baking for Memphis, then this week a co-worker brought me a baggy of some treats she'd made. Apparently the recipe came from a local rescue and training organization, and they use these as training treats. Memphis went crazy for them, and I happened to have all the ingredients, so I made them first.
PUMPKIN (preferred by vet)/SQUASH/CARROT COOKIES
2 Cups pureed pumpkin/squash or carrots (2-14.5 oz cans drained)
3 Eggs
¼ cup wheat germ
2 Cups flour
1 cup rolled oats
* Combine carrots and eggs. Add dry ingredients.
* Press into greased 15X10 cookie sheet with wet hands
* Bake for 25 minutes at 350 degrees
* Cool & cut into 1” squares
STORE IN REFRIGERATOR OR FREEZER
I didn't have any regular flour so I used white whole wheat flour. I think it made the dough a little more firm and the cookies a little drier, which is actually good, because they're easier to feed. I think next time instead of cutting them in squares with a knife, I'll try cutting them with the cute cookie cutters that came with Jades's book. :)
When my dad came home, he ate one before I told him what it was and he liked it. I had eaten several myself. Pretty good! And pretty healthy.
