Link roundup (from cancer jokes to dinosaurs!)

* Susan Enan's album Plainsong is one of Amie Street's top 25 of the year, and it's available there for $5 to download until the end of the year. It's a really pretty album which I've pimped before, but I thought I'd mention it again with the price cut. (ETA - the Great Lake Swimmers' album Lost Channels is also $5.)

* I had my mom listen to this NPR story, and she loved it: Battling Cancer with T-shirts and Laughter. She had me go right to the woman's website and order the Bad Hair Day shirt for herself and the Colon shirt for her sister. :)

* In this season of media naming their top ten [insert thing] of the year, The Onion has named its "Top Ten Stories of the Past 4.5 Billion Years." Heh. Two of my favorites:

#3 Women Domesticated "A valuable commodity with seemingly endless uses, the woman has played a crucial role throughout human history," noted historian Alan Helbling said. "Not only could she be trained to perform a variety of tasks, but once her spirit was broken and her energies reined in, she could be taught to come whenever she was called."

"They're really quite magnificent creatures," Helbling added.
(It has a happy ending for the women!)

#6 Dinosaurs Sadly Extinct Before Invention of Bazooka "Over the years, we've learned a great deal about their physiology, their dietary habits, and even their migratory patterns," Diffey said. "Unfortunately, however, nothing in the fossil record can reveal what it would be like to blow apart the massive front leg of a charging diplodocus and then watch it crash violently to the ground, sending a spray of dirt and dinosaur blood several stories into the air."
Somehow, this reminded me of Hodgins and his lab experiments in Bones.
