Just got back from the farm after a difficult, dark, stormy drive, and I'm feeling drained from the whole week. But food makes things better, right? When it's for other people, most definitely.
That's why I made Louis and Chuck try them before I told them why they were "special." (And not *that* kind of special.) I think pairing bacon with chocolate is a bit of a fad right now. I guess if enough people like it, it could stick around. I know my parents were very impressed with the candied bacon on its own.
I certainly wouldn't have thought of the combination, but upon reflection, I decided I wasn't opposed to it -- back when I ate meat, I was one of those folks who liked to drag the breakfast sausage through the pancake gravy syrup, and I figure the bacon-chocolate must be along the same lines.
(Whoops, I say "sausage" and I immediately think "gravy.")
That's fine. I'm not trying to sell you on the idea. I was just surprised at how inoffensive the finished product seemed to be, even to my parents who saw me making them and were very unsure about it. Apparently the cookie doesn't really taste like it has meat in it.
I think my brain just broke a little at that.
