Food. Recipes. Fire bad, tree pretty.

Just got back from the farm after a difficult, dark, stormy drive, and I'm feeling drained from the whole week. But food makes things better, right? When it's for other people, most definitely.

For caerwynx:

Bacon chocolate-chip cookies. Bacon chocolate-chip cookies. Bacon chocolate-chip cookies!?!

I think my brain just broke a little at that.

That's why I made Louis and Chuck try them before I told them why they were "special." (And not *that* kind of special.) I think pairing bacon with chocolate is a bit of a fad right now. I guess if enough people like it, it could stick around. I know my parents were very impressed with the candied bacon on its own.

I've seen the bacon chocolate bars in the store (they are very expensive btw, like $6 for a smallish bar) although I can not fathom why.

I mentioned the bacon cookies to my kids. Daughter is horrified although son is begging for them

I certainly wouldn't have thought of the combination, but upon reflection, I decided I wasn't opposed to it -- back when I ate meat, I was one of those folks who liked to drag the breakfast sausage through the pancake gravy syrup, and I figure the bacon-chocolate must be along the same lines.

(Whoops, I say "sausage" and I immediately think "gravy.")

It wasn't easy. :) And I do love my brother.

I love bacon, and I love chocolate, but my stomach says "WHAT?!?" at the thought of them together.

It's such a weird idea, I know. ::shrug:: My parents and brother are not the most experimental of eaters, and they all liked the cookies a lot. I was just saying to Donut, maybe it's like swirling your breakfast sausage around in the pancake syrup. I actually liked that back when I ate sausage.

It was a fun and memorable gift, and for that I think it was worth it. :)

I don't eat pork - do you think that using turkey bacon would work just as well? Hmm...

I would have preferred using turkey bacon, actually, even though I wouldn't have eaten it any more than I ate the bacon. *g* I think as long as the turkey bacon would let the brown sugar cook into it, and end up sort of chewy/crispy, it would work fine.

I'm getting awfully curious about those bacon chocolate chip cookies. I may actually *gasp* have to try making them at some point!

I think if you're not opposed to bacon and you're looking for some variety in your cookies, it might be worth a try!
