An Attempt to Distract Myself from Spoilers

DAMMIT, SPOILERS EVERYWHERE!

Mustnotclickmustnotclickmustnotclickmustnotclickmustnotclick…

I don’t know how long I can hold out! Now would be a really good time to go hibernate in a cave somewhere with no internet access.

Let’s talk about something completely unrelated to the SPOILERS THAT ARE CALLING ME. Hmm.

Oh! I chose some furniture.
I picked this DVD/VHS rack, stained "dark mahogany" (I wanted "ebony" but it's not worth paying an extra $80 for). It'll replace my fugly falling-apart bookcase and should fit my entire DVD collection and most of my VHS tapes. (Speaking of which... I should probably cull a bunch of those VHS tapes and trash them, but it breaks my heart to do so. I get absurdly sentimental about inanimate objects with memories attached to them.)

And I picked this black dining set. I was torn between that one and this folding one. I like the folding one because it's such a space saver, but I don't like the color as much, the chairs look uncomfortable, it seems less sturdy, and knowing me I'd probably leave it unfolded 99% of the time anyway, because I'm lazy. Plus, there's enough room in my living room to fit a full sized dining table, so I don't really need the folding one. The one I got looks solid and sturdy and nice, and I'll probably keep it much longer than I'd keep the folding one. It was a difficult decision, though! (Involving lots of measuring and rearranging and trying to figure out if the non-folding one would take up too much space or not.)

Unfortunately these aren't going to be delivered until July 5, and I'm having a housewarming/birthday party on June 28. I don't know where everyone is going to sit! But then most of my friends are apparently busy that date anyway, so it might just be four of us sitting on the futon. And if more people RSVP, I'm sure I can get some folding chairs from somewhere. (Any local LJ friends want to come? It's at 7pm on the 28th in East Williamsburg/Bushwick and will have lots of drinks and vegan appetizers. If you're interested, leave me a comment and I'll add you to the evite.)

I still haven't gotten the bookcase, four-drawer black filing cabinet, or air conditioner. (In this cool weather, the air conditioner hardly seems necessary, but I know I'll change my mind when it gets hot again.) I'm going to stop by the Brooklyn Ikea and see if I can get the bookcase delivered before my dad comes this weekend (he said he'll help assemble it but doesn't want to transport it). I need to call the various Staples locations in Brooklyn and see if any of them have the filing cabinet. The air conditioner we can just get at PC Richard on Sunday.

Other random stuff:

* Apparently I'm seeing the Cure at Madison Square Garden tomorrow night. That came up quickly. (I'd bought a ticket last year for a show that got rescheduled.) And tonight's another Vegan Drinks night. And the stupid L train stops running at midnight, so I'll have to make these both early nights. I miss living in Manhattan. :(

* I bought a bunch of vegan cookbooks. Because I HAVE MY OWN KITCHEN AND I CAN COOK ANYTHING I WANT. It's so exciting. :) Based on reviews, I chose Vegan Cooking For One, Vegan Express, Veganomicon (yeah, for some reason I didn't have my own copy), and Vegan with a Vengeance.

* I bought these speakers so I can listen to music/podcasts in my kitchen or living room. They work really well for wireless speakers, but, well, they're mono, so the sound is kind of painful. Still, it's better than blasting music from the office and then getting murdered by angry neighbors.

* jaydk is coming over Saturday, just leaving before my dad arrives (around 9pm). So we should have time to watch the new episode and Confidential, yay. :) Unfortunately she's busy the next two weekends, which means this will be our last Doctor Who night of season four. :( It also means that I have to watch the last two episodes of the season ALONE. *cries* Clearly I need more real-life Doctor Who fan friends in the same, y'know, state, as me. (What if the final episodes break my heart and there's no one to commiserate with? What if they suck and there's no one to gripe with? I suppose it's a sign that I'm overly invested that I'm thinking about whether I'll need emotional support to watch Doctor Who. :P)

* I have a million things to do (eyes work, SuperVegan, and Writercon); why am I goofing off on LJ again?

More distractions; have some recs:

* selenak wrote a great post comparing "Midnight" and "Voyage of the Damned." (I could swear I read a good one somewhere comparing it to "42," also, but now I don't remember where it was.)

* lordshiva wrote the Doctor and Anya from Buffy! So much win.

* I adored the New York Times article about Russell T Davies. So far three people I know in real life have come up to me to chatter about it, too.

* I read this entire book about the 1977 blackout in NYC. I'm weird. I clicked on it while researching the history of Bushwick and ended up completely fascinated by the sociology, psychology, and history it explores. (Plus it's fascinating because I had a great time during the 2003 blackout--I got drunk in the gay bar across the street and bonded with my soon-to-be-friend Anne, who stayed at my place rather than walk home to Brooklyn.) It's amazing to compare how the various blackouts reflect the social conditions of their eras.

* I made this bread (substituting a mix of molasses and agave nectar for the honey) and it's delicious.

Do you have any recs for stuff that'll distract me from spoilers? Please share. :)
