"What would Stan Marsh say?"

Bwah! That was awesome. If you're going to have a cheesy moralistic typical-TV ending, the least you can do is acknowledge it with humor.

Alas, that was the only good thing in the episode. Keith's smarmy, Veronica's annoying, Logan's dull, and Piz ... well, I've been fantasizing about his slow painful death, so that can't be good.

The gender politics of this show are so weird. It's bothering me that they keep punishing Veronica for being emotionally closed off. Like, if she was a male hero, that would just be a trait that might get criticized occasionally, but would basically be accepted as the lone male hero archetype. Romantic in its way. But because she's a woman, it's not okay, it's not even an accepted character flaw; it's a constant source of tension for which the character must be punished. See the error of your ways, learn to trust men, blah blah blah.

I don't know. I haven't really made up my mind yet; we'll have to see how this rape plot ends.

Also, I forgot to mention seeing Common Rotation.

They played last Thursday in NYC, and I finally got jaydk to go. She liked them okay, though they're "not her kind of music," which is what I said originally too.

The show was pretty good, though a little short. I bought a copy of their new album; it's a little boring, but maybe that's because I've heard all the songs already from seeing them so many times. Still, it is rather ... monotonous. Like, almost every song has the same tone and is done in the same style. Very quiet and folky, not as energetic as I like them to be. Still, good, interesting lyrics, as usual.

I think Adam Busch takes pride in the fact that he's managed to convert a goth chick into liking his folk band. I walked by him and he gave me a huge hug, told his friend "I think we're the only band of this genre that she likes," chit-chatted a bit, introduced himself to jaydk, and gave me a huge hug goodbye. Awww. He's way nicer than an actor/musician has any right to be. ;)

So I flew up to Boston on Saturday and met up with 10zlaine. We ate at this unbelievably awesome entirely-vegan pizzeria called TJ Scallywaggles. I want to move to Boston just so I can eat there every day. It was heavenly. Seriously, most vegan pizza is actually health food in a vaguely pizza-esque shape, but this was really pizza, with a delightful crust, tomato sauce, passable "cheese" and awesome toppings. Yummy.

Also, our hotel had an awesome huge flat widescreen TV. 10zlaine had brought her DVD player, so after fiddling with the connections for a while, we managed to watch "Stormy Monday" and drool over Sean Bean's gorgeous ass and adorable baby face in gigantic widescreen. Awesome. I so want a widescreen TV; why can't I be rich, dammit?

Then we went to see Common Ro at Club Passim, which also has tasty food. This time we ate the health-food version of vegan pizza (it was good, but honestly, they should call it something else; it's not pizza). The audience was bigger than in NYC, the set was longer, and the band was far more enthusiastic. I guess the crowd and venue make a big difference. I'm really glad I went; it was one of the best shows I've seen from them in a while. Lots of chatting and joking with the audience.

Afterward we tried to find somewhere to drink (the club doesn't serve alcohol!!!), but all we could find were coffee shops. Seriously, do people at Harvard drink anything besides coffee? We must've passed ten coffee shops before giving up and going to the one bar we could find, the same place we'd hung out after seeing George R. R. Martin in January. It was super packed and all they had was beer (some of which was decent--they make it there--but 10zlaine doesn't like beer.) So we shared a sampler and fended off creepy men and decided to head back to our hotel and finish up "Stormy Monday." Mmmm, Sean Bean.

The next morning we went back to Club Passim, because we couldn't resist their vegan brunch. We got thoroughly rained on (we were taking the subway everywhere--or, the "T" as its inexplicably called in Boston--it took me forever to remember that ["Marta? Bart? Tube? Underground? What the hell do they call it here??").

Their "scrambled tofu" was more like "root vegetables cooked with chunks of tofu," but whatever, it was fresh and good. They need to work on that naming, though. And they give you endless coffee and tea that you can refill yourself; I could've stayed there all day, but 10zlaine had to get home.

She drove me to the airport (thanks!) and then I had to wait around for five hours because the rain had delayed everything. I got on an earlier flight, but it still left an hour after my original flight had been scheduled to leave. *sigh* But I made it home safe and had a fun weekend.
