One of My Stories Has Been Translated into Russian!
I was very flattered and honoured when I was contacted recently about having one of my Robin of Sherwood stories translated into Russian. As the story was submitted as part of a fandom competition, I won't mention the translator's name. I haven't mentioned this before because I didn't want to seem pushy, but I've written the last story in the Sanctuary series if you're interested. Surprisingly enough, it's called Sanctuary.
If it's not something that you're in the mood for right now, I completely understand. No pressure. :-)
Just so you know, Bernard de Guillevenen (from Many More Miles) is back in a pretty big way.

I'm glad that thing are better with you and R, though I'm sorry that you're still living a bit under the shadow. Please send me a message if you ever need to talk, vent or whatever. I'm not sure if this is necessarily the best advice for you, but I try to keep distracted and focus on some of my interests when I'm in a bad place. I realize that you may not feel up to writing, but maybe there are some other projects that you could pursue. Books you meant to read and never got around to reading or films you've been meaning to check out. It isn't a perfect solution, but having something else to focus on has definitely helped me.

Thank you so much, karen9! That's very generous praise, indeed! :-D I wouldn't say that my stories are widely recognized. I think it's more a matter of the translator-to-be stumbling across my fic while on AO3. She was extremely kind with her comments and feedback when she contacted me personally. In fact, she took an interest in translating a couple of different stories. I'm not sure why she chose The Last Squire in the end. She had mentioned the number of Gisburne fans that she knew through Russian fandom, so maybe she thought this story would appeal to them. Anywaaaaaay, I'm touched and flattered that she likes my RoS stories and would choose to translate one of them. :-D

It's astonishing that a 1980's British TV series should appeal to Russian fans. It's interesting that they are particularly fans of Gisburne.

It's astonishing that a 1980's British TV series should appeal to Russian fans.
Robin of Sherwood has elements and themes that seem to have an international appeal. I've met more people from different countries through RoS than any other fandom. I wonder if Russian fans can relate to RoS because it reflects aspects of their own history (e.g. a peasant class being oppressed by a richer, more powerful class). Of course, I think many of us like to root for the underdog, so maybe that's something that appeals to Russian fans as well.
It's interesting that they are particularly fans of Gisburne.Yes, I'm not sure how to explain that, though I'm often surprised just how many Gisburne fans there are in general. A lot of female fans do find him attractive. Maybe they see him as a tragic figure as well. There's one Russian fan on the AddiesFaction Facebook group who will share Russian language fanvids with the lyrics translated in English. At least some of the ( ... )

For me, I have to say that it was amazing to read your story in Russian. As I told you at the chat yesterday, I only read a little bit, but I think it's a good translation.
As I said yesterday, I once tried to translate a part of Children of the Wheel into Czech. And I would really like to try to translate one of your stories into Czech. It would really be a challenge, a wonderful challenge.

You didn't have to go to the trouble of offering your congratulations, though I obviously appreciate your very thoughtful gesture. :-D It is wonderful to see one of my stories in a foreign language. I never thought I'd see anything that I'd written in Cyrillic. It's nice to know that people who may not have been able to read the story before can read it now. :-)
