Artistic Inspiration!

So after the guys left last week and my life got back to normal I had a moment of artistic inspiration. I had had such a fun gay filled week that the paintings could only be seen as a living monument to the week.

I had 2 pieces of wood, they were shelves from my old book case, which I painted with black acrylic. I wanted to put a simple very modern piece on them but I couldn’t decide what. I did some quick sketches of wine bottles and martini glasses but they didn’t do. I needed something else. I consulted my books and found a few Chinese ink paintings. You know the ones with as few lines as possible to reflect a monk. They were perfect. Next I looked at my Gay World book and found this striking pose of two guys embracing. So I took out a pencil and sketched a portion of the picture on each of the pieces of wood, and then painted them in an off white hue. They turned out great and I really like them. My first work with human subjects, I typically do landscapes and cityscapes, and this was also my first modern simplistic work. I usually do post impressionistic style art.

All in all I am very happy with them. I think they will start a new phase of art. I would like to paint some pieces for Karim too. So this will all work out. I have also finally decided it is not a sin to remove pieces from my sketch book and get them framed. So I am going to take out 4 ink drawings a frame them to put up around the house.

So for my next projects I am going to refine my black ink drawings and go around DC drawing things that I will later frame and give away. The nice thing about cityscapes is as a present they are very versatile and can go anyway in a house or apartment. So people don’t be surprise if you get a mailing tube with some pictures inside. I will also work on larger pieces of modern art too. I like to direction I am moving in with my human pieces so I will continue them. I also want to do some prints but I need a printing roller machine for that. Perhaps I could use a large can of soup to press the image onto paper. That may work, if not then I can eat the soup and decide on something else.
