Character back story + current conflicts.Canon Point: Ladon has recently dealt with the shooting of his younger brother and the enigmatic reappearance of the incubus who taught both him and Conrit how to change into human forms. Something stinks about the incubus's timing, but Ladon's not sure how things are going to play out just yet.
Setting:

Personality: Ladon is... quirky. Not in a nice way. He has personality tics that are difficult to understand at first, but they're as much a part of him as his signature hat and cigarette, and after a while those who associate with him tend to expect them. Ladon is a lot of things, but he's not really unpredictable.
Ladon has a few obsessive-compulsive habits. His first is that he's almost fanatically clean. He cleans wherever he goes, and never leaves a mess in his wake. He will even go as far as to clean up after others if he believes their mess will betray that he's been there. When he eats, he immediately washes, dries, and puts away his dishes. If he spills something, he sweeps it up before he does anything else. Cleanliness is hardly his only obsession, though. He's also very protective of his money, and he hates spending it. This ties back to his hoarding instinct as a dragon, but also his generally fastidious personality. Spending money is both physically and emotionally painful for him. He will often get sick after a large purchase. He doesn't believe in dishwashers, and his people had to beg him to get a coffee pot. He sees most technology as useless and unappealing, he'd rather keep his money tucked away in a bank account, collecting interest, than use it to buy something he can manage to do with his own hands. He likes tinkering with things, though, especially guns, watches, and other small things.
He hates being touched by people he isn't very, very, very familiar with, and is easily flustered. He's a product of jazz age society, and has the resulting hang-ups about public affection, anything sexual, anything having to do with females, and what's acceptable and what's not. Despite this, he has a filthy mouth, and swears almost nonstop, more so if there's no women present. He's immensely anal-retentive and has an idea of how things "should" be, and tends to get prickly and defensive when things don't jive with how he sees the world. He's almost constantly in a cranky mood, and gets his feathers ruffled easily. His younger brother remembers him as a nice and gentle soul, but his time in Nieve's criminal underground has since made him cold, calculating, and cynical.
He's pessimistic most the time, doesn't like human beings and never gives people the benefit of the doubt. He's seen the grittiest side of human nature and that has made him misanthropic. Ladon does not respect the men he works for, sells weapons to, and associates with. He knows he's lumped in with them, and he remains cordial to them, but he hates them regardless. He knows very well that the older dragons in his clutch were right, and that there are men he knows that would do worse things to him than kill him should they find out what he is. Ladon is essentially stuck living in a den of wolves, who he loathes, fears, yet feeds off of. He does have humans he cares for, most notably Camilla Flow, the closest Nieve has to a female mob boss and a few of her entourage. He would still protect a human child if he found himself in a circumstance that demanded it. So it isn't to say he hates humanity as a whole. He simply doesn't trust them, doesn't feel like he belongs among them, and mostly uses them as a means for survival above everything else.
He doesn't hesitate to throw a punch or go for his gun when pissed off, mouths off, and has a horrible temper. He's blunt and rude at times, and his mouth tends to get away from him when his buttons are pushed. Even if he hasn't been provoked, he's generally unfriendly at first to most, with very few exceptions, most of which have to do with his upbringing. He loves children and animals. Where he can be a violent, disrespectful, and downright dangerous guy to adults, he softens completely when it comes to kids and strays. He's more maternal than paternal (though don't tell him that), and has a way of taking care of anything that wanders onto his doorstop and needs caring for. This is due to a philosophy rooted in him from being raised in a tightly knit clutch where he cared for his many, many younger siblings, and the fact that the ultimate "good" life in dragon culture has to do with having a large family and being a doting parent to your hatchlings. His little brother Conrit is immensely important to him and Ladon would do anything to protect him.
Ladon's greatest fear involves compromising his kind due to being discovered by the humans he lives among. He was warned since he was a hatchling to stay away from humans, because they would either kill him or follow him back to the clutch and kill his entire family. Once he started to live in Nieve, he began to understand that dragons and other non-humans were not only out-numbered by humans, there was the potential for genocide should they be discovered. Still, Ladon will defend his lifestyle if questioned: What other choice does he have? Waste away in the mountains, watch his kind die out due to how few fertile females are born, the low hatch ratio, and a disease that randomly wipes out entire clutches? Ladon is well aware that he's taking a huge risk in doing what he's doing, but he believes that he will be able to keep up the act long enough that he won't compromise his kind in the long run. That said, he understands why his family likely hates him for it. After all, he's not only doing something incredibly dangerous by living amongst humans, but his disappearance is partially to blame for Conrit's running away. He's not only endangered his kind, but also encouraged the younger generation to do the same.
Abilities, Weaknesses, and Power Limitation Suggestions: Ladon can use three different kinds of magic: transformation, glyphomancy, and fulgurmancy.
His transformation magic is pretty straight-forward: his original form is of a black dragon, roughly the size of a horse not including wings and tail. He spends 99% of his time in his human form, though. About all he can't banish of his dragon form are his eyes and his horns, both of which he manages to hide with the help of his trusty gatsby hat. Now and then he sprouts a tail, but most the time he manages to keep it concealed. He can change forms fairly easily, though doing so will ruin his clothing if he doesn't get undressed first. He can sprout black wings while in human form, but not for very long, and flying while human is awkward at best.
Glyphomancy involves the use of runes to charm objects. Ladon needs to use his own blood to do so (or spit, or urine, but he prefers to work in blood since you can see it and it isn't as gross as urine). He's pretty good at it, since selling charmed weapons is a big part of how he supports himself and his crime ring. Charms only last so long, though, before they start to degrade, and he has to renew the spells every few months so his guns with unlimited ammo don't turn into chickens or start shooting glitter. Ladon has four charms committed to memory, since he's used them so often: unlimited ammunition, aim/accuracy assistance, silence, and one that prevents his own weapons from being used by others. Charms can be destroyed by being marred in any way-- smeared, scuffed, chipped into. The charms he uses on guns are engraved using a process that utilizes rice paper and backwards-drawn charms, and thus more difficult to break than a simple blood-drawn charm.
Ladon can also defend himself with fulgurmancy, lightning magic. He can create sparks in his hands and arc electricity at a target like lightning. In dragon form, he can also breathe electricity. He can breathe fire in either form, but that runs the risk of lighting his own insides on fire (and has a terrible aftertaste), so he avoids doing so whenever he can.
Non-magic wise, Ladon is a decent gunman. He's had enough practice and knows enough about the guns from his world that he's a fairly good shot. He's relatively agile seeing as he's a skinny little thing, but he lacks physical strength.
Ladon has a few handicaps thanks to what he is and the vices he has. He smokes like a chimney, and this has impaired his lung function enough that he runs out of breath earlier than he would if he was at full health. He doesn't have much in the line of muscle mass and isn't very physically strong or adapt. He's not going to win any wrestling matches in his human form, and while his dragon form gives him a bit of an advantage versus your average human being, he's a weaker member of his species-- another adult dragon of his size would own him easily. Despite this, Ladon is a feisty little thing, and tends to get in over his head without realizing he doesn't have the physical strength to back it up.
Ladon's biggest weakness is the cold. Viruses can't live in his bloodstream, but he can get very sick from exposure to the cold. If he was lost on a freezing tundra with no supplies or shelter to keep him warm, he could very easily either freeze to death, or possibly burn his insides out because his furnace will kick on to keep him warm and there's always the chance that, if he has any kind of internal injury, he can set his insides on fire. That said, when Ladon has the cold sickness, he sneezes fire, is congested and miserable, and emits even more heat than normally.
Additionally, during equinoxes/solstices in his world, Ladon's magic wanes and he is then unable to maintain his human form. So, should anything happen to affect Ladon's magic while on the station, he will be stuck as a big smelly dragon instead of a small smelly mobster. His charms will also fail to work during that time.
Inventory: Clothing (hat, coat, gloves, sweater, slacks, etc.), lighter, three packs of cigarettes, pack of rice paper, a pen and several ink vials full of his own blood, a regular fountain pen with normal ink, his revolver with two charms (ammo and one that keeps others from using it against him), wallet, accounts ledger, folding knife.
Appearance: Tallish and skinny, Ladon dresses himself in dark colors and does his best to blend in. He's often found wearing a brown Gatsby hat, which he uses to hide his horns and shade his reptilian, green eyes. His hair is long in the front, black and shaggy. At times he sprouts a black tail, but usually manages to keep it tucked into his coat. During the seasonal equinoxes, his magical levels dwindle, and he's forced to take his dragon shape, which is a black, winged, scaly creature about the size of a horse. Yes, he can be ridden, but not willingly.

Log Sample: It had been a long night for Ladon and everyone else involved. If he hadn't been unconscious, it would have been even longer for Conrit. The time had passed in slow motion, each moment bringing a new feeling, a new worry. Aza breezed in and out of his make-shift clinic, face and eyes grave. Each time, Ladon looked up from where he sat, waiting for some kind of sign that there had been some improvement, some change. Instead his cousin avoided eye contact, and Ladon was left to fret, pace, and plan the messy deaths of the men who had shot his little brother. Guivres had slunk out of view and Ladon knew not to go after him. His temper would have had some repercussions that would probably not leave the green dragon in any kind of decent shape.
He'd been exiled from the infirmary room not long after Aza had gone to work. He was too upset to stand in the corner and watch, he kept getting in the way, kept interfering with his questions and pleas for information. Draig had thrown him out. He knew it was for the best, but he was still frustrated. The wall was dented where he had slammed his fist into it, in lieu of any outlet for his anger. This was never supposed to happen. Conrit was never supposed to have left the mountains, come to Nieve, or gotten involved in Ladon's life. He was never supposed to have stayed as long, either. Yet the area of the mudslide hadn't been reopened, and Ladon had no way to get Conrit back home.
If he hadn't taken Conrit to the jazz club, hadn't gotten used to having him around, enough that he'd gotten comfortable and ignored the danger he was putting his younger brother in... Guivres had been trouble, Ladon should have known something like this would happen. He was Conrit's older brother. He should have known.
He got up from his chair, paced. He sat down again. Aza swept back in, carrying his stitching kit. Ladon stared after him. "Aza?"
"Not yet," the gold said. Ladon watched the door swing closed behind him before he grabbed his hat off his head and threw it to the floor. Then he went back to pacing, one hand on his hip and the other rubbing nervously at the worried frown on his lips.
Network Sample:
[ Ladon isn't one for technology. The bracelet he's been fitted with is not exactly his thing, especially since it does things that non-magical items aren't supposed to do. Not sensing any magical energy off the thing is downright off-putting.
The way he clumsily pushes at buttons to turn on the camera function and glares at it like it may just hop off his wrist and bite him are evidence enough of his distrust for it. But he manages to man up and use the damn thing, since it's his best bet right now. ]
M'lookin' for someone. Kid, 'bout twelve. Small, dark hair, wears a hat. Goes by Conrit. S'important I find him if he's here. Any luck, he didn't get the bums rush outta Nieve like I did.
Anyone seen him, speak up, yeah?
