Memory Eternal!

Memory eternal to His Holiness, Patriarch Aleksii II of Moscow! I had the honor of receiving his blessing in 1999 and have heard him speak in person several times. A most impressive person who exuded spirituality, kindness, and humor. May God have mercy on his soul.

Hello, Olga!

Thank you (and Vladimir) for your posts. I apologize for my late reply. As you probably know, many of us Orthodox here in the US celebrate Christmas on Dec 25, so it has been a busy time.

I appreciate all you wrote. I am very familiar with Foma... I often read it when I visit Russia. I even met with a young woman (Katya?) a couple of years ago at the Foma offices. It is a wonderful publication, and I am thankful for the work the staff does.

I teach psychology at a small university in Illinois, although I am originally from Northern California. I've lived in Russia at different times during the last 10 years. The longest stay was from 2000-2003, when - among other things - I taught at St. Tikhon's University of the Humanities in Moscow. I've been Orthodox for 10.5 years now; before that, I was Protestant. I began learning about Orthodoxy when I studied Russian, which I chose to study because I loved Russian literature and ice skaters!

I wish you and all the staff at Foma a wonderful end to the Nativity Fast, a blessed 2009, and a Merry Christmas!
