My name is Larisa Golubeva. I'm Russian, born in the Soviet Union (Russia),

MY FEES (negotiable)
- 60min in-person class - $25
- 60min online class - $20 (Zoom, Whatsapp, etc.)
- 40min online class - $15 (Zoom, Whatsapp, etc.)
- 60min phone class - $15
- 40min phone class - $10
I take advance payments for my classes and hope it's not a problem.
You can pay cash or through PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle any time before a class.
If someone is looking for one hour in-person class, we can meet at one of the cafes in the center of SF that I can suggest.
When going to the place of your choice, my fee depends on how far I have to travel & my transportation cost.
Also, I help the people I teach by answering any questions they might have between the sessions
(translations of words & phrases, correcting their emails to me, when they type in Russian,
emailing them in Russian with English translations, marking stressed vowels, etc.).
All these are free of charge. They can email or text me their questions anytime, or call me, and I'll reply asap.
I always have time for the people I teach.
If you're not my current student, you can still email me your questions + I can also check grammar exercises you're doing.
The fee is $5 - $15 depending on the question / exercise.
If you need some conversational practice only, when I can correct your spoken mistakes, pronunciation & intonation, this can be done in-person or on the phone / internet (30 minutes minimum - $10-$15).
If you have a Russian book that you have a problem reading, we can do it together, and I'll also explain some grammar along the way, if you want.
Also, if you have a Russian book that doesn't have stress / accent marks, I can put them there for you.
RESCHEDULING OR CANCELING
When rescheduling to much later time or another day, or canceling, please, email / text me at least 6 hours before the beginning of our class. I'll have to charge $10-$15 otherwise. Sorry... Normally, personal tutoring requires a full tutor's fee being paid, in this case.
Should you cancel or reschedule less than one hour before your scheduled time, the full fee for the lesson will be charged.
LESSONS (can be personalized and some have English<>Russian podcast (audio) with transcript)
In-Person Tutoring:
You'll get an individual lesson in print, me (tutoring you) and a digital version of the lesson (with the marked stressed vowels) emailed to you.
Online / Phone Lessons:
I can get a lesson emailed to you after the payment, and a few minutes before a class,
and we'll go over it together during the class.
You can have the lesson on your screen or you can print it out and take notes (recommended).
I'll also share my screen with you.
The advance payment for the online / phone sessions can be arranged via Paypal, Venmo, or Zelle.
We can also alternate between in-person and online / phone lessons.
About the Lessons (again!):
I compose my own lessons with the emphasis on the modern conversational Russian
because I found out that many textbooks, websites and videos have lots of mistakes, e.g. incorrect translations, archaic words & phrases, wrong phonetics and even words that don't exist in the Russian language.
Some books give phrases that you never hear Russian speakers use (we just don't talk this way), not to mention the authors of many of those books are not even Russian.
Nevertheless, if you'd like to use your own textbooks, just bring them along.
I try to cover the subjects I teach as fully as possible.
In many textbooks, websites & videos, they give minimum info that doesn't help learn the language at all.
I also have my own sequence of lessons that I find quite effective for learners.
I cover different grammatical & conversational topics and can also make a lesson on the subject of your choice.
If you're planning a trip to a Russian-speaking country, I have a series of "Travel lessons" and will be happy to give you some advice, as well as answer any questions you might have.
I also have, so called, "Meet The Parents" and "Dating a Russian" lessons for someone who is in a relationship with a Russian-speaking person, is planning to meet his/her parents and/or planning to propose.
I don't believe one can learn a foreign language on his/her own, especially if it's at a beginner's level.
Learning a foreign language often requires close personal tutoring.
Otherwise, you will learn only a few phrases, and there is no guarantee that native speakers understand you.
Phonetics could be challenging, and computer-generated voices, podcasts and videos are not the best ways to learn a language.
With Russian and English, you'll certainly need someone who can correct your pronunciation and point out your mistakes.
I have been teaching a few Americans whose Russian is very advanced, and they all prefer one-on-one in-person tutoring.
For someone who is serious about learning my language, I have a 2-year course (4 hours a week) where many lessons are customized & have podcast.
You can also take a shorter course or just learn what you need.
Many references are available.
