Notes: Vlaska has a speech collar around his neck. However immense disuse and long days in the Russian snow have rendered it a rather hit and miss machine. This can be rectified with some modification and repair though. Oh, and also he’s a cat. I’m pretty sure the Journal name would have given it away to anyone who knows cat breeds.

Background: Long before the second impact, a Russian Scientist by the name of Dimitri Karchev sought a way to ensure the motherland’s defence against invaders from beyond. Between the Invaders, the Dinosaur Empire, the Festum, and the Irgelions Doctor Karchev had very little sleep at all. Many of his designs had often seen constant revisions, and the doctor wracked his mind to find some way to make the machines more than they could be. To make them “Super” for a lack of better term, and for a long while it seemed like it would never happen. Until one fateful night, as he toiled long into the dark, he saw a shooting star.

Accompanied by several aides the Doctor soon discovered a meteorite that was exuding surprising amounts of energy. The space rock was quickly taken away for study and constantly examined for its potential, and to the Doctor it seemed like his prayers were answered. Somehow the space rock seemed to bend the natural laws in addition to exuding energy, allowing for more impressive designs. The first of the new machines he called the Bronya Pobedy (Victory Armors) that would eventually be named Slava (Glory) was lined with material from the meteorite and had a power-core utilizing a denser sample of the energy laden rock. The design looked to be effective but it seemed that he would plagued once more with failures as the machine remained inert, refusing to activate.

Dimitri refused to be denied though, after the occurrence of the meteorite he believed that every bit of difficulty encountered must have been some kind of trial that he would overcome by sheer faith and stubbornness (and perhaps a little luck given the fact that it was a FREAKING SHOOTING STAR that made this possible). Once again as he struggled to find a solution to his conundrum fate seemed to play its hand once more. His daughter Natasha, who worked with him on this project as a mechanic had brought her cat Vlaska with her due to being unable to find someone to take care of the feline while she assisted the doctor in the project.

This would seem to be an odd thing to be regarded as important, but the cat being in unfamiliar territory soon slipped away and right into the cockpit of the Slava. It napped there and roughly an hour later what would be the last attempt to make the machine work went ahead, finally achieving success at the cost of its original test pilot. The energy surge that loosed through the Slava had changed Vlaska and finally activated the machine - linking it to the feline. The Doctor did not despair this time, he put Vlaska under study, as he did with the Slava and the now comatose pilot. The surge had altered the cat, making it smarter, more aware...sentient. This at least would be able to grant some respite while another solution was worked on.

A comprehensive study and comparison soon showed that it was by a particular gene present in the cat that allowed it to link to the machine and activate it. Whilst Slava and Vlaska took to battle defending the motherland, the Doctor began to work on a way to mimic the gene in the human body. Six more machines with six people, along with Vlaska and Slava it would become seven.

Genya - A man of immense endurance and few words. Genya chose to live a hermit’s life in the wilds of Russia after being discharged from the military due to concerns by his superiors. In this solitary existence he proved to be a paragon of endurance.

Maksim - Tenacious, headstrong and full of conviction. Maksim was a young man who grew up on the streets. He lived for the challenge and always looked to prove himself, a growing champion of might.

Germogen - An ever alert man who served diligently in the military. He was always regarded as a human radar, able to pick up on ambushes before they even happened - proving him to be a shining example of vigilance.

Lev and Akilina - Twins that had ventured to many places beyond the motherland. The two have no fear and a sense of morality and discipline that make them to be siblings of courage and honour.

And Natasha - Dimitri’s legacy who had always worried about the awakened feline who had been her best friend through thick and thin and wanted to do her part to help the world.

With them came Stoikost, Mozhno, Bditelnost, Chest’, Musthestvo and Nasledie. With these seven machines Dimitri hoped to have the motherland lead the world on the path to salvation. For a while this seemed like it would be so, these seven heroes would do their best to protect the world from threats from beyond, gaining much recognition in their homeland and even a little outside of it.

They were an odd group - two men tired with the world, a trio that were getting into trouble because of their adventurousness and a kindhearted peacemaker with an intelligent (by human standards) if naive cat. But perhaps it was this hodgepodge of personalities that allowed them to mesh and fight as a good team, despite the odd inter-group conflict.

But soon reality began to set in as they were made to fight their fellow man, not for the sake of peace but because their home demanded it so. The life of heroes they lived devolved into blood-soaked warfare. To Genya and Germogen it was nothing different (even though they were sick of it) but to Natasha, Maksim and the twins it was a horrific act that went against everything they fought for.

Good Times were over, they had blood on their hands and scars upon their souls. The human pilots soon became insular, refusing to make contact with those not involved with their little group of heroes. Vlaska watched with confusion and sorrow as Natasha who had been a cheerful, helpful soul become a shadow of her former self, her smiles forced and her cheer faked. He saw all of his companions, his humans slowly break apart and become hollow shells of the heroes they were before.

They grew ever more antisocial, staying with their machines and disobeying orders - earning scorn and hatred from those in the military. The Doctor, trying to appease both groups was demanded by the military to hand over his research so that they could make the machines on their own due to the fact that the Bronya pilots could not be depended on.

Dimitri’s refusal of these demands would lead to his subsequent assassination followed by an attempt to take the Bronya Pobedy units and all related research by force. This would be the lit fuse that led to the human members of the Bronya team abandoning the motherland with a trail of blood. Their last words before they disappeared into the night with the machines that may as well have made them physical gods in the eyes of the Russians was that when the time was right they would change things in this horrible world, whether they like it or not.

And what of Vlaska, who did not leave with his owner and the other Bronya pilots? The facility itself was put into lockdown during the military’s attempt to wrest control of the machines. Slava was in its depths, unreachable by human hands. Its pilot, not understanding of its owner’s intentions was left behind, lost in the cold and wandering back and forth between the broken shell of what may as well have been its home and a settlement a ways away.

Personality: Vlaska is someone who struggles to understand his existence as well as trying to control his emotions. Raised from a previously mindless existence sentience is something that is alien and confusing to him. As such he had often asked those around him in order to learn his own meaning and know what it means to truly be alive. Because the separation and abandonment by his team the meanings he had been led to believe in were shattered, and thus he seeks a new definition.

In regards to emotions this is also a concept that he is struggling greatly with. Not because he was not without emotion to begin with, but more because he has a greater sense of feeling and emotional response that he had before. Because of this he is often overwhelmed by what he feels and more than often has a tendency to overreact to certain responses and gestures. This lack of control essentially means that he wears his emotions on his sleeve so to speak.

Aside from that he is of a friendly sort who enjoys the attention of others, often seeking them out and causing all sorts of antics in a playful manner. He has a distinct lack of social subtlety and has a tendency to point out things about others in a most blunt and often hilarious manner.

Vlaska is however a very simple person, he does not understand the concept of lies and deception very well, complex instructions and technobabble frustrates him to no end and he sees the world in a black and white manner. If you hurt him and those he regards as his own you are his enemy and are not deserving of mercy. Academically he's essentially a rube, he knows how to fight and a few things about the world thanks to his owner, but in Russia would people really want to take the time to teach a cat that pilots a giant robot about things that are regarded as unnecessary on the battlefield?

After being tossed aside by his team Vlaska is also somewhat desperate for the affection and acknowledgement of others. When unable to deal with his feelings of abandonment he paws at the mementos of his team: A few photos, tatters from the damaged and aged personnel files and even a worn out comic in Russian of their exploits together.

Capabilities and Resources: Vlaska as mentioned before is a cat, his senses are much sharper than that of most humans. He can move where others can’t go to and spot what they can’t. However he is quite physically limited when he is not in Slava.

Robot Name: Bronya Probedy Odin - ‘Slava’

Robot Description: As with most of the Bronya Probedy Slava is a durable machine. Slava’s body is lined with and powered by a material called Bessmertnogo Plameni (The Immortal Flame) which allows it to act with almost supernatural capabilities. The machine is capable of leaping at great distances and moves with surprising agility despite its sheer bulk - possibly due to the influence of its pilot.

The machine is completely mentally commanded by its pilot. One would imagine that given Vlasna’s situation that it was quite difficult to utilize in its earliest days - but now the pilot can move it as easily as his own body. The Slava is capable of limited flight, but this ability is rarely even used with the exception of bringing airborne targets down to earth.

The Bessmertnogo lining in the machine allows it to disperse weaker energy based attacks (along the lines of beam vulcans and beam spray guns) as well as decrease the damage taken by larger beam weapons. However, this dispersion effect decreases with the larger amounts of power behind each attack. This distortion effect can be increased at the price of movement ability and offensive power.

Vlaska’s weapon of choice on the Slava is the Kogot Slavy (Claws of Glory). Essentially large razor sharp claws that are attatched to the Slava’s hands, the weapons are one of the areas that are more densely lined with the Bessmertnogo. Capable of shearing through armor on its own, having the power core intensify the amount of energy in the claws wraps them in an intense corona of energy that grants the Kogot Slavy even more cutting power.

Also on its arms is the Izluchatel Vzryv Koleno (Burst Knuckle Emitter). Originally designed to be a compact directed energy weapon utilizing the Bessmertnogo’s energy output it could never get very far without dispersing. The solution was solved to have an intense and forceful burst of energy as a close range weapon. For all intents and purposes it would be like strapping a shotgun to a boxing glove and making it fire with every punch, only with lasers.

Both previous weapons have a pair special attacks based on them. Zahgrazhdenie Vzryv Koleno and Sokrushitel'nyi Vzryva (Burst Knuckle Barrage and Shattering Blast respectively) for the Izluchatel Vzryv Koleno and Zvezda Tesak and Bezzhalostnye Kogot (Star Cleaver and Ruthless Claw) for the Kogot Slavy.

The first two attacks are essentially a barrage of punches with weak energy bursts and one massive punch with an equally large blast of energy respectively. Zvezda Tesak is a moderately raged attack that lets loose a "ranged slash" as it were of focused energy. Bezzhalostnye Kogot involves several rapid slashes follwed by punching unpowered claws into an opponent before charging them up and exposing the insides to the world - this is sometimes with an attack from the following weapon, but not always.

On its torso is the Plamya Vzryva (Flame burst) Cannon. Focusing a large amount of Bessmertnogo energy into the weapon, the cannon lets loose an intense shockwave of energy. The recoil is quite large however and Vlaska needs to dig in to use it from a distance. Given his penchant for always going for the up close and personal fight though, this weapon is often not used they way is should be and tends to be fired point blank the moment he can get an opponent in his grip.

For its final ability the Slava is able to pump massive amounts of energy throughout its body because of the Bessmertnogo lining it has in a manoeuvre called Svet (the Light). Essentially sheathing itself in an energy field similar to the Kogot Slavy, it allows the Slava to move with increased speed and agility and makes its attacks all the more effective. This however ends up putting a lot of stress on the machine and exhausting its pilot, leading to less effective attacks and even more sluggish movement days after the manoeuvre is used.
