New to America

Being in America is much different than I was expecting. If I were basing my experience on what I have seen in movies, I would first note that there are a lot less car chases and shoot outs. Of course, I knew that this was a little not true. One thing that did surprise me, though, was the apartment space. In Moscow, my parents, my grandparents, and I all lived in a two bedroom apartment (I sleep in the living room as the youngest). Here, the living room of apartments is the size of our entire apartment in Moscow! I am very shocked that space isn't better used here. I am also a little surprised that there are even empty apartments to rent. In honesty, we have to wait until someone dies for an apartment to open up, and then usually the children of the deceased is waiting for it.

Other than much culture shock, things are OK so far. I think I might like it here. Hopefully no one shoots me before I get fully acclimated. (Just kidding!)Now I must find a job so that I will have money to do things in this city, like attend college functions and the like. Even as a physics major, I cannot just study all of the time, yes?

college, culture shock
