Learning to Scuba Dive and Charlotte Forever

Sunday November 30th 9:27

Perfect day: Learning the basics of scuba diving, fish swimming up to your face to check what’s up, swimming along with a school of little blue guys, mowing down on exceptionally fresh caught that day ceviche and homemade pozole soup and a house margarita. Lovely lovely fucking lovely.

Swimming against the current was exhilarating and terrifying all at one. Being smashed against the rocks by the tide, letting out air and descending below the shelf into the murky blue below….terrifying! I almost panicked initially. A part of your rear-brain is unable to process the body's *assisted* ability to breath underwater and panics; you have to consciously force your body not to go into shock, hyperventilate and scamper to the surface (I wasn't deep enough to get the bends, but deep enough to cause damage to my lungs). Like some under-water baptism, you go down with the weight of the world (and a 100pound belt) on your bod and emerge bouyant and refreshed.. I left a lot of shit on the ocean floor, totally atoned. Shaky and exhuasted but totally exhil

I also love the sterility of the hotel room. I'm always tempted to flub off and spend a weekend alone in a hotel room writing, clearing my head: this was the first time I allowed myself to do this. If enough money is left at the end of this I'm going to head to Paris at the end of the 2nd semester alone for a week or so. It didn't make sense this trip to spend 22 hours in transit each way and then only 1 1/2 full days in Paris, with jet-lag to contend with as well, this time around. I'm looking for places I could do a show at in the summer/end of spring as an extra incentive, and possible source of funding, to make this trip. I'm also seriously thinking of working on my French and moving to Paris, eventually getting citizenship (that lovely thing about the state paying a salary to their working artists is rather appealing. Not to mention that citizenship is not determined by some odd genetic-connect/lineage but is based on a cultural preservation. Give me a year or two and I'll be more than able to pass any tests...) Canada isn't going to work for me in the long-run, as much as I love my homeland-ish. I don't see North America as an entire fruitful place to stick it out in for the long run, not culturally.

an excellent proff of mine is going to set up a "field-trip" to the Museum of Jurassic technologie, Ive just got to get together 5/6 pple and he'll set up a meet and greet with the creator of the space... which is pretty fucking amazing. He reccomended a number of orgs and peeps that I should be meeting with, including the The Center for Land Use Interpretation, whos director I spoke with breifly after a lecture at the school (I want to do this project at the great salt flats I might ask for help with.) regardless, excitment all round. Finally feel like Im sussing out the people I really really really want to work with here.
