So .... been a while. Not sure how many friends are still left. It was interesting going over a list from a long time ago and reminiscing on old memories and good times with folks I haven't seen in ages. I remember a snow event years ago and being stranded in West Virginia with friends and everyone firing up their laptops to login to LJ and make snow zombie jokes.
There are times I would certainly like to turn back the clock and relive some of those old moments. Seemed like the most simple of fun times. Ah but life goes on, and some of my old friends are either no longer in the area or have gone down the split-up road and are now on other paths for new journeys.
So what is up with me you may ask. Even if you didn't I'm going to tell you anyway.
* December was my 3 year anniversary of being in full cancer remission. And since this summer has flown by, I'll be to my 4 year mark and celebrating Christmas in what is sure to seem a short time.
* Still working where I was. I am officially 0 for 8 in my other job search. So I have kind of resigned myself to staying where I am until sweet retirement comes into view in a few years. I am a dinosaur I guess. Could willingly learn new things if given the chance, but current management likes me in my legacy tech rut.
* Been spending time helping my friend's animal rescue efforts. That is truly a high end emotional reward for me, especially when some loving abandoned little furball goes to a new happy home. Still don't get how people can just abandon animals, sometimes in a very cruel way. Those are people with no souls.
* I've been traveling less and enjoying it more. I am a very happy homebody and I think my furry ones will enjoy me in retirement as they go out of their way to make sure I have a lot of fuzz therapy after a workday and on weekends. Is it wrong to embrace this? It isn't like I am anti-social. I do go out with folks and enjoy time with others. But given a choice, home with my cats is where i would remain most often. And it is my choice. So that is what I do.
* Came into perspective with old fart syndrome a couple of weekends ago. Ran into someone at the grocery store who recognized me and said hello. Turns out he was the little kid down the street I remember in Cub Scouts and who would come mow my lawn. He is now a college graduate and engaged. And you know what he remembered most about me? That I would always scare the hell out of him at Halloween even if he knew in advance what I was up to. Ah, good times.
* Not going to even bother ranting about politics. There is finally a guy in charge who has left me speechless and stupified and I don't see how even trying to discuss the utter crazy going on would be beneficial.
* You liking our sauna like heat? Don't worry. The long range early winter outlook has at least a couple major snow events in our future that will make you long for these days.
Well, since it is past my bedtime, I will close for now and leave you with these good wishes:
