my neck of the woods is in the 4 - 8 inch expected band ... the 8 - 12 inch band is just a bit north ... and there is a bigger pocket east towards the bay ... the real nasty part is coming while we sleep ... sleet and freezing rain between midnight and 2:00 am, changing to a mix of sleet and snow, then all snow by around 3:30 ... then snow all morning which will be falling on top of a nice layer of ice, disguising it and making things pretty treacherous
I will match wits with the weather guessers on this one
based on the available radar and the overlying temperature bands, I say I will get at least 10 inches of snow by the time it stops tomorrow afternoon ... perhaps even as much as a foot ... because that 8 - 12 inch forecast band is too close and I think will come funnelling down the mountains right to me
you folks out west may get a real whopper of accumulation
you can go to
http://www.weather.gov/ , enter your zip code in the upper left and get your local forecast ... and while there, peruse the forecast maps and decide for yourself if they're right
*** EDIT March 5th - so, Mother Nature is playing with us ... the storm stayed all rain overnight and only those out west have gotten snow so far ... but Mother Nature is actually being mean ... the rain means there can be no pre-treatment of the roads, so once this changes over, it is all going to stick and accumulate quickly
the big snow blob out west heading our way looks bigger on the radar than it was expected to be yesterday ... this could be fun (unless of course you're stuck somewhere you don't want to be)
my recommendation - keep the pj's and slippers on and stay home
