Not such a great Mother's Day.

Just got the call to say that my grandmother just died...

On Mother's Day.  :(

Just after we had come back from a lovely Mother's Day BBQ put on at a local winery.  There's always a big turn-out there every year, with a real Aussie style gourmet BBQ and pancakes, wine tasting and a band on the balcony overlooking tons of tables out on the lawn beside a river.  It's always a really nice family day with hundreds of people enjoying the sunshine, the music and the food

She died peacefully though, in hospital, at the age of 87.  She was my Dad's birth mother (who he found later in life) so I didn't know her for all of my life or have as much to do with her throughout my childhood as I did with Dad's adoptive mother, who I knew to be my grandmother until I found out I had a second grandmother - well... a third actually!  *complicated*

So, 2 out of 3 of my grandma's have passed away now and the last one can't speak any longer and doesn't know us so it's really kind of an end of an era - I pretty much have no grandparents left now.

So treasure your grandparents while they're still around (if they are still around). I always tried to visit as much as I could and I still do with my grandmother who can't really communicate any longer - there's something in the eyes that tells me that there's some type of recognition there, even if she can't get any words out anymore.  It's very sad though, at least my grandma that just died was still able to live at home and enjoy life up until the very end but it's not always like that, but if it can be peaceful and without any suffering then it's a real blessing.

So, hope your Mother's Day was more fun than mine.  The remainder of the day will just be very restful.

To all you Mums out there (and your Mums... and your Mum's-Mum!) and to my special Mum who also happens to be one of my best friends (aww aint that cute!) - a very Happy Mother's Day!  Hope you all spoiled your Mum, remembered her if she's gone and celebrated all that Mothers do for us all!

Me and my Mumma before lunch today.

Yep, I wore my Pirates coin (which I had made into a pendant because it didn't have a bale on it) I'd never really worn it before because I'm always freaking out that I'm somehow gonna lose it!  Here's a better photo of it...

Aint it a purrrdy coin!?

And here's some gratuitous Autumn shots from the winery... I *heart* autumn.

ooops, that photo turned the wrong way... but how rustic-Aussie is that scene!

Just keep swimming, just keep swimming...

Chillin' out on the deck listening to the last of the band.

An even more Aussie-looking scene.  Yep, can't get more stereotypically Australian than that.  Well, the winery is out in a tiny little rural town so that's pretty much what ya get.

Take care all ... and be good to ya Mum!  xx
