Anyways I'm sure this wouldn't have been our ballot since I'm sure the Sad Puppy campaign wasn't 100% gamergate-entryism and probably did convince some folks who would've nominated works they actually enjoyed personally in the Sad Puppy-free alternate universe.
One thing I know for sure: this short list ballot looks great!
Whoops, got carried away with the stat-monkeying in trying to figure out if Weir was eligible and Sanderson was a puppy push and lost track of the smaller number! Thanks. Editing.
That's an awfully nice ecosystem with the kudzu and the killer bees weeded out. I wish it had happened.
A note on Best Fanwriter: Matthew David Surridge was originally fourth on the ballot and bowed out so as not to be tainted with Puppiness. He deserves to be restored.
Ooh, good point. The thing is, though, it's impossible to tell where he would have been on the ballot without the puppy push, since they definitely had a chunk of people voting for him. Also, I got the impression from his writings that he might well have refused a Hugo nomination anyhow, as he doesn't identify with fandom or participate knowingly in fan stuff. So I think I'll leave this ballot as it is, but everyone should remember that Surridge is awesome.
