Election Night Anxiety

Nov 04, 2008 21:19

At least, with the time difference, I can go to bed and wake up with the East coast voting almost done (and this race will be decided by the east - if McCain doesn't swing Ohio, he's done). I get to skip most of election day itself. On the downside, I know I'm going to have nightmares about the election. McCain wins, I'm drafted because we've counter-invaded the Ukraine to keep Russia out, and I'm being clusterbombed. The end.
McCain wins, and in ten years the US has rolling blackouts to combat the energy shortages. Armed gangs roam the unlit streets at night, killing people and taking their unaffordable prescription meds.
The possibilities are infinite!

Right now, I feel like Saint Augustine's mother Monica, in her terrible anxiety while waiting for her son to convert to Christianity. Will my country pull itself back from the abyss? Or, driven by superstition, hounded by shortsighted lusts, will it seal its damnation? Come on, America!
