I had intended to mention this in the last post, but in hindsight I suspect that giving this its own post may well be better anyway.
Simply put, I had not planned to attend Dragon*Con this year (for the first time in quite a while) due to the move and school and the rest. However, I managed to move with fewer expenses than expected and my budget allows for me to at least entertain the possibility of attendance.
Now, as anyone who has done last minute con planning knows: don't. It's brutally hard to work out the details at the last minute. This is especially true of big cons (almost paradoxically, actually). The big bottleneck, as always, is crash space...
When I was young (and stupid) I had a simple solution to this problem. I would go to the con with my hiking backpack. This backpack would contain all the necessary luggage for said con and I would carry it around with me. Sometime after lunch, but generally before dinner, I would manage to make friends with some cool and adventurous person, and convince them to let me sleep on the floor in their hotel room and use their shower in the morning.
This option, I suppose, remains open to me, but I'm no longer as young as I used to be, and let's be honest: after spending the summer on the road sleeping on floors and couches and occasionally in my car, I just don't feel like doing it this year in Atlanta. This leaves me in the worst position I can be in: I have a budget that allows me to attend the con, but I don't have anywhere to sleep during said attendance.
At this late date the vast majority of you will have your sleeping plans all arranged, and for that I can only say bravo. If, however, you know of someone who doesn't, or if you know of someone who has had to cancel at the last minute, know that I have a budget that contains money. And that this money could be contributed toward the cost of a room should one be available.
Do not, under any circumstances, feel any pressure to squeeze me into your already full room. I certainly don't want that. But it is possible that you have the problem of needing an extra warm body contributing funds, and that problem is one that I can help you solve.
So... short version: if you have crash space for Dragon*Con, let me know.
I'm rich!
