Story Name: Three.
Story Genre: Battle Royale II
Story Rating: T/PG-13
Summary: Three drabbles, three crack pairings, three points of view.
Pairings: Shimura Tetsuya/Mukai Wataru, Nanami Jun/Asakura Nao & Hikasa Shota/Shibaki Masami. Implied Kitano Shiori/Kurosawa Ryo.
Disclaimer: Nope, don't own this one either. 1st one's title comes from AFI's 'Prelude', 2nd one comes from Enter Shikari's 'Mothership' and the 3rd one comes from Three Days Grace 'I hate everything about you'.
A/N: AU, again. I don't think I'm ever going to write another fic in canon for BR II. First one's too short and the second one's too long. Continuity-wise, first one's just before the attack that ends in the destruction of the island, the second one happens after all of the survivors meet up and the third one happens in between the other two. They do all tie in, actually, in a weird way.

Kiss my eyes and lay me to sleep...

He lights two cigarettes. It's only when he turns around to give one of them away that he remembers. The cigarette drops out of his suddenly frozen hand into the water below, red from the amount of people that died earlier. From Ryo, from Naoki, from the medic and his temperamental girlfriend.

He wonders if the body drifted to shore or kept floating in the ocean until it sank. Usually he wouldn’t be so morose, especially about one of Makimura’s clique. But this was different.

After all, how many of that group have actually given a damn?

Besides him, and not counting Kenji, who he had never been able to picture hanging around with Makimura, none of them ever had.

And now he was dead.

And Tetsuya still owed him a cigarette.

"Hey, Wataru, are you allowed to smoke where you are?" He asked the empty room before walking out to attempt one last suicidal distraction to get Asakura's group to safety.

What are the clouds running from?

Asakura Nao has an hyperactive imagination. It's one of her weaknesses, she's always thought.

But if anyone had told her last year that she'd be playing drinking games with Nanami Jun, of all people, she would have laughed at them.

"I've never hated anyone." Nanami raises his eyebrows at her in an expression of disbelief.

"You serious?"

"I'm not drinking, am I?" She shoots back, slightly annoyed, and he takes a drink, without taking his eyes off her.

"I've never thought that I would die as an old person." She takes a drink of her bottle. She has. Not recently, not since before Shintaro died, but back when the class was made up of 42 people, instead of the six that now travelled together.

"I've never had a one-night stand with one of my classmates."

"...I'm not taking a drink for every time that I've done that, Asakura."

"You don't have to, Nanami. And if you did, we'd have no alcohol left." He glares at her and finishes his bottle.

"Who was it?"

"I don't have to answer to you, Asakura." He growls defensively and she realises that she's hit a nerve. She would apologise, but Nanami would never accept any apology of hers if she tried. So she shrugs, indicating for him to take the next round.

"I've never believed in fate." She doesn't take a drink. Her actions have led her to this point, just as Shintaro and Shugo's actions led to their deaths and Asuka and Wataru's deaths are the result of some terrorist's actions that she'll never understand.

"I've never killed." She knows that Nanami, having stayed behind like Shiori, would have had to kill at least one person to have survived that mad escape.

She's right. He winces and opens another bottle, taking a drink out of it. Apparently Nanami's got a lot of regrets.

"I've never led people on."

"I don't know what you mean by that, Nanami."

"I've never encouraged people to love me when I'm interested in someone else."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"I'm sure Urabe could have told you." He keeps glaring at her and she glares back, wondering if she can expose any of his nerves in retribution. Usually, she's too nice to try. But for Nanami, who she believes should have died on the island, she will make an exception.

"I've never betrayed my friends memories." His eyes narrow dangerously: she's pushed it too far in his mind. For a moment he looks like he's about to hit her and she braces herself for the blow. If he knocks her over, he's won.

Then he stops, smiles slightly and takes a drink.

"Not bad, Asakura. Didn't see that one coming. Makimura didn't teach you that, I bet." She shakes her head, quietly chuckling.

"No, Nanami, he didn't."

"Look, Asakura, if you want to find and exploit all of my weak points, all you have to do is ask me about them. As long as I get to be a nosy bastard back, right?" She shrugs. Technically, her and Nanami are on the same side, but in theory, Nanami's also on the same side as Nanahara and that's not true. Not by a long shot.

"How many of our class had you fucked, Nanami?" He starts to count and then shrugs.

"At least seven. Girls and guys."

"Which ones?"

"I know that I had sex with Nosaka. Hosaka too, but at a different time. One of your group, couldn't tell if it was Urabe or Sakurai and I've never bothered asking. Naoki because I was drunk and fuck, everyone had sex with Naoki when they were drunk. I think even Shibaki did at one point, which is quite weird. That's four, right?"

"Yeah. And for your information, Nanami, I've never had sex with Jo. Even when I was drunk."

"Your loss. He was actually pretty good too. I had sex with Kitano at one point as well. Pissed Ryo off no end, let me tell you."

"Kurosawa...and Shiori?!" She bursts out laughing and he grins at her.

"See, that was my reaction too. Guess we've got one thing in common at least."

Every roommate kept awake, by every silent scream we make...

He misses Haruya.

He wonders if the small dark bundle next to him misses his friends too, if he had any. As far as he can remember, he's never seen the other boy with anyone else. Of course, having cut pretty much every class except for the ones that Haruya had insisted that he go to, he hadn't had that much contact with the rest of his classmates.

From what Shintaro had told him about the rest of his classmates, he knows that the guy next to him is Hikasa Shota, possibly one of the contenders for the title of the most introverted person that Shibaki had ever met.

"You awake, Shibaki?"

Also one of the lightest sleepers. He opens one eye to meet Hikasa's.

"Yeah. Why?"

"Because I'm bored. And not really tired."

"Nervous?"

"Trying not to think about it. This was the first time away from, well, not home, but my local area and suddenly I'm a wanted criminal." Shibaki laughs quietly. He's been moved from place to place, either because he smoked in the class and was suspended, or because he got into knife-fights and was expelled. He can't remember the first time that he moved.

Still, it has to be better than Hikasa's, just by the fact that he can't remember it. The casual murder of people that, not long ago had been cheerfully talking and laughing, is something that he wishes he could forget. Like the coach and the last time he'd see their team at their happiest and most natural. He wants that to be the last time that he remembers Shintaro, laughing at Takuma's morose persona, not the look on his face as he prepared to be murdered. Asuka, in the seat behind him and Haruya, smiling, instead of screaming, blood covering her ruined eyes. He didn't even see Wataru die. Shugo, telling Nao to sign the rugby ball and dying...for what? Because his partner was a idiot.

And his friends had been lucky. Out of Kurosawa's group, only Nanami was left alive after the destruction of the Wild Seven base. None of Fukuda's group had even reached the island in one piece. He isn't sure about Shindo's tennis team though.

"Hey, Hikasa?"

"Yeah, Shibaki?"

"Who do you miss?" Hikasa is silent for a moment. For a single moment, Shibaki doesn't think that the other misses anyone, that he was one of those students that, after being neglected by everyone else, writes a suicide note and kills himself in class. Then he speaks again.

"I miss everyone, Shibaki. Even the ones that really disliked me. Even Hasegawa, who threatened to shoot me in both kneecaps and leave me to die. Might have done it too."

"Why didn't he?"

"Because Nosaka threatened to kill Niimi before her collar blew up."

Granted, his group had started one or two little fights, mostly between Kurosawa and Kitano, but their group sounded like a war zone in itself. He pities the person that had been given the hard job of settling those fights.

Then he remembers that it had been Jo's job and stops pitying the asshole.

"Did you have fights like that often?"

"Only until Hasegawa got blown up. Then we were too busy arguing over whether we should kill the terrorists or not. Fortunately, since it was Jo v Shindo and neither of them wanted their collars to blow up, it was just a loud discussion without threats or violence."

"So unlike our Kurosawa v Kitano fights, then?" Hikasa, of course, takes it the wrong way.

"Kurosawa hit Kitano? That..." He cuts Hikasa off before he can hear what insults he can come up with about Kurosawa.

"No, Kitano hit him in the face with her gun." To his surprise, Hikasa chuckles.

"I would have loved to see that."

"Didn't like Kurosawa?"

"Didn't really know him, to be honest. Jo and Maezono were okay, for the most part, but Nanami was a bit of a pervert and Shimura could be a right bastard. Stabbed him once, actually."

He stares at Hikasa, trying to imagine him stabbing Shimura.

"It's always the quiet ones, right?"

"In my defence, he was trying to strangle me."

"Why?"

"...He was trying to intimidate me, I wouldn't back down and it pissed him off. One thing led to another and he tried to strangle me, so I stabbed one of his hands. At least he left me alone after that. Have you ever used that knife that you're always throwing at people?"

"Why?"

"Because your aim sucks. I bet I could throw that knife more accurately than you. Where is it, anyway?"

He'd actually lost his knife in their escape. He'd thrown it at a soldier and it had caught him in the neck. He hadn't had time to pull it out in the chaos that followed. Pity really. It was a good knife.

Not waiting for his answer to come, Hikasa falls asleep, leaving Shibaki alone again with his thoughts and regrets.
