TITLE: Butterfly Effects
AUTHOR:
rushikayu13FANDOM: Akira (movie)
CHARACTER: Tetsuo Shima.
GENRE: Mention of het, but the story's not based around it.
TABLE: Time
PROMPT: #2 -Minutes
RATING: PG.
WORD COUNT: 254 words.
SUMMARY: A quick glimpse at a future that we didn't see in canon.
WARNINGS: References to deaths of two minor -but still important- characters.
NOTES: Not only is this my first fic for this table, this is also my first Akira fic. I might have screwed up Tetsuo's character a little, but I thought that this would be the hardest one to write, so I started with it.
DISCLAIMER: Akira is not mine, ladies and gentlemen. Should you happen to own the Akira copyright and read this, then please don't sue me as my student loan and Sunday job won't cover it. Should you own the copyright to the Butterfly Effect movie, then I would like to point out that the chaos theory that the movie was named after does not have a copyright and that I am allowed to use that.
The butterfly effect states that a small difference to the world (such as the flapping of a butterfly’s wings in the given example) can cause a massive change in the near future (a weather condition such as a tornado).
On a certain day in Neo-Tokyo, a member of the gang known as the Clowns forgets to check his bike to make sure it is in good shape. When he prepares to ride it in the night-time, it turns out that a few screws have come loose. And -in agreement with Murphy’s Law- the tool-kit containing a screwdriver is stuck under the couch of their hideout.
The Clowns aren’t that late, and the fight starts only a few minutes later than it should have done. But it is enough. Due to that one delay, Takashi finishes crossing the motorway without incident and escapes to Ryu’s resistance cell. As Takashi does not nearly get ran over, Tetsuo Shima never develops any psychic abilities, does not kill Yamagata and Kaori and never finds out who Akira actually was.
Instead, he remains with Kaneda’s gang until they split up, marries Kaori in possibly the greatest farce of a wedding ever (Yamagata drank too much and passed out while they were saying the vows, and Kaneda couldn’t find the rings for an hour before realising that he’d put them in his wallet for safety), gets an actual job and dies quite peacefully in his sleep at the age of 76.
One little difference, and the world changed around it.
This is the way that life works.
