So my friend at work and I were having dinner the other day and we started talking about hobbies. I don't have many hobbies, but the one thing I sure love are original soundtracks of movies/dramas/animes. Do you agree with me?
Several notable mentions are The Last Samurai, the Batman trilogy, the Amazing Spiderman 1&2, Pride and Prejudice, The Dressmaker, Twilight saga in terms of Hollywood movies. Animes would be Kuroko no Basket, Akatsuki no Yona, Junjou Romantica, Fullmetal Alchemist, Naruto, Bleach, etc. Jdramas/movies would be Rurouni Kenshin, Okitegami Kyoko no Biboroku, The Quiz Show 2, Maou, PLATINA DATA(!!!), Ooku, etc.
I love it when the soundtrack reminds me of some scene in the movie/drama or when the soundtrack tells a story.
The Dressmaker's OST is amazing - the pain, the agony, yet the ironical satisfaction of burning down her village is clearly palpable in "Burning down Dungatar". The blatant disregard for societal norms, the attitude in "The Black Dress". Simply brilliant.
I recently listened to Okitegami Kyoko's OST. The first one is 6.22. It's quite long for part of a soundtrack (as they all tend to be around 2-3 min). But I felt there was a whole story hidden within the soundtrack - it tells the story of 2 people. At first, they have just met and are tiptoeing around each other, then they gradually come closer and start to dance. As the soundtrack progresses, the dancing becomes faster and they start falling for each other. The situation becomes dangerous and they are too far gone, but the dancing doesn't stop and that's the climax of the track.
I guess my imagination just runs away with me. But I can't help going through the all the emotions those 2 people would have felt when I listen to that soundtrack.
Another of my favourites is Swaying Necklace from Naruto. It's Tsunade's theme at first - the pain of losing a loved one, the agony and misery, coupled with the exhilaration of having loved someone so deeply, with the pride of that person aiming to be Hokage and then the sudden loss of that person. It's so emotionally wrenching.
Platina data definitely needs its own mention. There's like a min of the score which is so deeply touching. The scene where Kagura and Tateshina are meeting in that secret room in front of the painting - that particular moment. The emotion behind that particular moment is overwhelming.
I listen to 1000s of soundtracks on a daily basis. So I could go on forever.
What do you guys think? What's your favourite track?
