so here's that update i promised

my roommate is out of town for the weekend, and asked the remaining roommate and i to water the gardens while she's gone, and i'm happy to say that mother nature has decided to take care of that for us today. it's pouring right now, which is good because we need the rain badly; at this point, though, we'd have to have about a week's worth of rain to make up for everything we haven't gotten all summer and i just don't see it happening. while it's nowhere near as bad as it was during the drought of 2002, we're still under a drought watch, which is never fun.

carolyn is the roommate out of town this weekend; she's the one who was living here when i moved in. a couple of weeks ago the new roommate, sonia, moved in, and she's great. the three of us get along very well - which is such a lovely change from last year - and i am so pleased to have people i can come home and talk to and relate to, at least somewhat. last weekend we went to the city market together and split a rhubarb pie. rhubarb - too bitter for me; i think cutting it with some strawberries would do the trick. last week my culinary task was to figure out what to do with the blackberries i bought at the market (the solution ended up being simply "eat them"); this week it is to figure out what to do with the baby bellas carolyn left and told us to eat. i think i may roast them and put them in a pasta dish tonight. we'll see.

full-time work for me ends as a driver on august 10 - not that i'm counting the days! - and i'll be heading the training-of-new-drivers process that begins on august 13. we've tweaked the schedule a little, which unfortunately will mean 10 straight days of at least 11 hours of work, but i think of the money and i do not mind it so much. i've already started to do work on training, figuring out paperwork and things, with more to come as the 13th approaches. after august 24 i will not be a full-time employee any more. huzzah!

i got my bill for the fall semester (which apparently was an aberration, so with the permission of my department i'm cheerfully ignoring the $6K the university claims i owe them) but have not yet been told i can register for classes. this is a bit irksome. but i can get my student ID starting next week, which makes it all Official ™. (ha ha - i love special characters!)

i also think i love my computer a little too much. we still have a problem with the morrissey CDs, but i'm willing to accept that as one of life's funny things.

i got caught on a chain link fence last night during a hash run (we weren't doing anything illegal, mind you). i guess it's a good thing i got my tetanus shot last month, considering that it scratched me badly in a lot of places. i also tore a hole in the shirt i was wearing, and i may have given the people on the other side of the fence a bit of a show. sorry, y'all. speaking of shows, i discovered earlier in the week that my curtains are much more translucent than i thought, and that they don't actually prevent anyone from seeing too much at night when my overhead light is on. so, um, sorry neighbors behind our house! get used to it! i accept tips!

i haven't finished re-reading HP7, mostly because i can't really bring myself to endure the second half again. i'm trying, though.

lastly, i am a slave to the global underground mixes that somehow keep finding their way into my "also bought..." sidebars on itunes. this is not good. i mean, the music is good, but i want ALL OF IT NOW OMG.

okay then! simpsons movie is out this weekend, and that's it for me. damn, it stopped raining... oh well. it was nice while it lasted.
