A Note for Viper [for Neo's RPG - Revved Forward]

Beast told me I should talk to you when he overheard our last ‘conversation’, but at the moment, I don’t think a level-headed exchange of ideas is possible, should we be sitting face to face. It would just deteriorate into another screaming match. I have better ways to use my energy, so this will have to do for now.

I’m getting tired of the vague ‘threats’, directed at me, and especially that one about you having control over Beast’s life. That’s not cute, it’s not funny, and it really makes my blood boil. I put up with that for a long time, and when you do that sort of thing, make those comments, you don’t look any different to me than the guy you’ve seen me chase away from here twice. I don’t want you to be my friend, I don’t expect it, but I don’t intend to feel threatened every time I come across my boss. If you have a beef, bring it, we’ll settle it. If you don’t? Just stop it.

You want me to stop treating you like a rookie? Return the favor, pal. I may be less than half your age, but that doesn’t mean any less capable than you are. If you feel like you have something to teach me, or a lesson you think I should learn…for God’s sake, teach it, don’t scoff at me like I’m some wet-behind-the-ears teenager. I’m here to serve and protect, like any good cop, and though I may be a SEAL, that doesn’t mean that I’ve forgotten there are things I don’t know, or that I have yet to learn.

Don’t brag to me about how many men you’ve killed. Sorry, doesn’t impress. Don’t try to dominate me, or press me under your thumb, or whatever the hell it is you’ve been doing. Just think about how you’d react if somebody tried that with you. You’d lash out pretty fast, wouldn’t you? I rest my case.

You know how to find me when you decide you can talk to me without backing me into a corner. If for some reason we ever have to work closer together than just passing in the hall, this stuff can’t keep coming up as an issue. Besides that, I’m tired of wondering if I need to save up my breath in case I meet you in the hallway.

Oh, and last but not least - yes, I’m gonna tease and give you a hard time some days, but look at it this way: I wouldn’t waste the time if I really hated your guts.

Rusti sat at her desk, flipping her pen over and over in her hand, considering the fifth note she’d revised. Good enough for her. She glanced over at Beast, passed out on her bed, and smiled a little, opting not to wake him for a glance at the final draft. After taking a quick drink from a glass of whiskey, she turned her light out and slipped out the door, feeling her way down the dark hall to Viper’s office.

Relieved to see he wasn’t pulling an all night shift, she managed to toss the note to land in the middle of his desk and backed out of the room, softly closing the door behind her.

She felt her way back to her room, kicked off her sandals and crawled into bed, curling up against Beast. Hopefully she wouldn’t be rudely awakened by a yell in the morning.
