I'd have posted this yesterday, but I was just too damn exhausted, so I'll do it today.
I started my new job yesterday. It looks hard, but also like its good work. The people there are good too (my first impression anyway) ^^
Day 1:
I woke up very early (6:30AM) so I could take a shower, and make sure I had everything ready for the day ahead. I arrived at 8:30 and waited in my car 'til about 8:45 ('cause we weren't supposed to be there 'til 8:50).
They spent from 9-12 talking about various benefits the job offers (all awesome too!), but 2 hours of it were basically policy and ethics stuff that I could have guessed (or was exactly the same stuff I had to do at the bank anyway). They did give us free lunch for the day though, which was totally awesome. ^^
The building is huge. It has two(!) cafeterias, a wellness center, a small convenience store, and a fucking dry cleaners! DRY CLEANERS!!! o.O Totally crazy.
At 1:00PM we were taken to talk briefly to the security guards, who told us about security procedure and took our pictures for our badges. After this, I was introduced to my manager proper, and she took me to the department I'll be working in. I meant some of the group, and was asked to shadow one of them for the rest of the day ('til 5). I went home, and told this story many times to my parents and stuff. Lots of benefits, perks, etc. I don't feel like going through all them really... >> <<
Day 2: Shadow completely the entire day, got to know some of the people a little better. Erica's a huge Harry Potter fangirl (she's got a picture of the Weasley twins on her cubicle wall, and a Sirius Black figurine). Kurt is relatively new to the job like me, but started a few months earlier. Bob is kind of the clown (a rather annoyed clown. We get along well ^^; ). Sophia's been there for a long time and totally knows what she's doing, same goes for Nicole. John's also fairly new. They all get along very well, and I think (hope?) I'm making a good impression with them.
I'm basically doing something I've never really done before, which is trying really really hard to not display my anime/manga/gamer/japan/etc. side in the slightest to anyone. They ask me what I was doing last night, I tell them I was watching Monday Night Football (which isn't a total lie, I just didn't watch all of it). What do I like? Illustration, Soccer, and Harry Potter. So far I think it's helping me fit in a little better with them, though I'm currently unsure how well I'll be able to hide it. One slip and the truth comes out. Just trying it on, esp. since this is a job I'd like to enjoy for a while considering the pay. I think I'll enjoy the job more if they dun think I'm a freak all the time. ^^;
