life with cats
So I'm sitting on my couch, hanging out on FB and watching viral videos, when I hear some strange rustling noises coming from my kitchen. My first thought is that my foster kitten Mina is trying to get in the trash again (kittens are curious after all) but then I noticed my other cat Smoke was attracted to the noise too... and she was looking at the kitchen cabinets, in the corner next to the dishwasher. No sign of Mina at all. I go over there to see what she's looking at, and don't see anything, but the sound is definitely coming from inside the cabinets,in the blocked off section in the corner.
Mind you, this is 2:30 am on a Friday night, and I'm wondering, are my cats up to actual mouse hunting or am I going to be calling an exterminator Monday morning? And are the horror stories about how big a job cleaning up after a mouse hunt true? But I'm not one that freaks out at the thought of a mouse, so I go back to the couch and my FB, when I hear it again. I look over, and I see a little grey-and-white face sticking out of the corner. A liitle grey-and-white KITTEN face.
Apparently, there is a small opening down at the bottom where the two cabinets meet. It's hidden by the overhang of the cabinets so you would have to be literally on the floor to find it, but Mina managed it, and managed to squeeze herself in. And seeing her trying to get OUT again, I think perhaps she won't try it again, since she had to make several attempts before she managed to escape.
But just to be sure, I've wedged an old watch box into that corner to block it off.
