Title: His Gal Friday
Genre: General short silliness
Pairings: None intended, although YMMV
Summary: Shoutarou ponders Akiko's role in his hard-boiled detective world, and gets a little carried away with the imagining thing. Inspired by a conversation with my friend about cosplay, of all things.
Rating/Warnings: G for half-boiledness.
Disclaimer: If I had any hand in creating for this show I wouldn't be so baffled that I wrote this.

He’d never admit it, but he thought Akiko had potential. Obviously she wasn’t ever going to be a sultry, femme-fatale love interest, but she’d make for a great snarky gal Friday. Not quite a partner, like Philip was, but not quite not one, either. Almost like a foil, even. She could do woman detective stuff, like picking locks with hairpins. Maybe she could even get her own hat. Not a hat hat, but something suitable for a girl detective.

This was the kind of thing he thought about in situations like this. The two of them were working a case. No dopants so far, thankfully, but far too much running around for such a small case. They were currently following a tip from Watcherman, which led them across town on foot for the second time today. In between listening to Akiko ranting about how much more she was going to charge the client for all this legwork, Shoutarou thought more about this gal Friday concept.

It could work. They already had that sort of banter thing going; that was practically halfway there. She didn’t dress the part, though. That was a problem. Maybe he could get her an old-fashioned trench coat for her birthday, to push her in the right direction. No, that would be weird, he thought. And she probably wouldn’t get the hint anyway and she’d just never wear the coat. Plus he didn’t know when her birthday was. This was a sticking point, and he resolved to think on it later. For now, they had arrived at their destination.

They skulked around the back door to look for clues, although Akiko was rather ruining her own skulking by making some sort of strange noise that he guessed was meant to be some kind of onomatopoeia for sneaking. Shoutarou stealthily reached for the doorknob, only to find it locked. He smiled for a fleeting moment, proud that he had just minutes ago been thinking about this kind of thing and how to solve it.

“Locked,” he said, trying to look as hard-boiled as possible, so as to contain his weird joy. “Do you have a hair pin?” He tried not to smile, because he was sure he knew the answer.

“Eh?! Why would I have a hair pin?” She nearly shouted, exaggerating her reactions as usual.

“You don’t have a hair pin?!” He returned in the same volume, hard-boiled demeanor instantly cracking.

“Why would I have pins in my hair?!”
“What kind of girl detective are you?!”
