It is so much more satisfying to make your on hamming function when you discover that your professor once agains assumes you have the bootleg version of Matlab like everyone else. More satisfying than throwing things even. It's like, haha, can't stop me from finishing the assignment. Ok, maybe that isn't that glorious. Just trust me.
